We are hearing masks are about to be made compulsory in all public areas, indoors & outdoors. Think you should keep up to date with developments. Gandia is already under strict restrictions once again. |

We just got back from Majorca and noticed everyone 'was' wearing a mask and saw the Guardia Civil telling people with the mask on their chin to pull them up... make sure you have a 'light weight' one as those cotton ones are hard to breathe through in that heat...

Well, it’s confirmed, masks are obligatory in Benidorm. Perhaps some folk don’t wish to hear the doom & gloom or think they are up to date.
Ignore the advice at your own risk.
Be safe, not sorry !! |

We are driving up for a couple of days next week (Thursday/Friday)
We are wondering what is actually open?
In normal times we like long lunches in the Tapas bars in the old town then usually head for Heartbreak bar on the promenade.
Evenings we usually look for some live music and end up in Cafe B.
How are those places doing at the moment?

I don't know exactly about this particular places but if they have outdoor space they're probably open, if only indoors perhaps they're closed.
What is usually happening in popular places is that there are shifts, so you can stay only a period of time (1.30 h usually in bars and restaurants) |

In Benidorm now.
It's really a tale of 2 cities at the moment.
In the daytime the beach and Levante promenade are as quiet as I've ever seen them. Very few people around. Heartbreak bar was open but very thin, maybe a dozen people mid/late afternoon.
At the Rincon end many of the hotels are still closed. Pelicanos was open but the Ocas, Flash, Calypso, and Ambassador Playa still closed. Didn't walk up close but the Rosamar looked closed as well.
Many of the daytime bars were also closed Most notably John and Josephs and Yorkshire pride but many others as well.
On the up side the pool party at Hotel Marina/White Star was still running but we walked straight in and had a choice of tables. In normal times you are lucky to get a space to stand. I would guess 100 people at best.
Old town was a bit different. While pretty quiet in the day, the restaurants and Tapas bars were quite lively in the evening, but still less that you would expect in late July. Also around 80/90% Spanish, heard very few English voices.
We didn't see the point of venturing to the Square in the evening, as the whole area looked so dead in the day, but we were told (as we expected) that it is very quiet.

It's the business owners we feel sorry for.
We've just had a couple of days in Benidorm and the Levante end was already dead.
That area is heavily dependant on British tourists. Many bars and restaurants had still not re-opened and this could be the final nail in the coffin for some.
Sad news indeed. |

"Derren Litten the creator of the tv show Benidorm has just open a themed bar called Mateo's. Mateo himself makes guest appearances. Definitely worth popping in "
Yes, a nice bar & well decorated, but it's not very big inside especially with the table distancing. Prices are pretty good to compare. |
