Hi fellow fabbers we are thinking about trying the Venus Star resort in Gran Canaria this year as Spain is now welcoming british tourists. Has anyone been and what are your thoughts good or bad please? |

OMG. It's AMAZING. We go for the BBQs there, haven't stayed there as guests.
Lots of sunbeds. Lovely pool. Very clean. If you can get in there then take it!
We are in GC October 5th-26th, staying in a villa but are planning to attend the BBQs as much as possible. |

We've been 5 times and always great. As we live in Tenerife it's always fun & great service. Bungalows are okay, not overwhelming but good. We love the swimming pool area and comfortable large sunbeds. All year long a good mix of ages & swinger/nudist.

We’ve been a couple of times and enjoyed it. Once when it was quieter and once when it was packed. Lovely apartments and comfy beds at the pool. A bit further out from the clubs etc but 10 mins in a taxi and you’re there.
Was pretty dead at night with no entertainment provided apart from the nice restaurant.
You’ll love it

We went last November for 5 nights and we thought it was brilliant. Apartments very nice and clean, poolside lots of fun and playing going on. Playroom can also get busy.
Gets very busy on bbq days which is fun.
Nights we went to the clubs as was quiet on site.
Would love to return sometime. x |

Just to provide some balance:
We have stayed there a few times since it opened, last visit being in Oct last year.
Last time we noticed a decline in standards from when it first opened. When we arrived in Oct I couldn't find the remote for the air conditioning unit. Looked everywhere and it was nowhere to be found so I headed back down to reception. The reason I couldn't find the remote? It wasn't there. If you want to use your AC unit you need to pay a (refundable) €20 deposit for the remote. You also need to pay another €20 deposit for the TV remote. The receptionist was extremely curt and acted like she was doing me favour by handing over the remotes after I paid.
The beds in the rooms used to be extremely comfortable; big chunky mattresses that are standard for most hotels (like the ones you would get in a Premier Inn). On arrival in Oct we found our room had a budget mattress that wasn't much thicker than a weetabix. The reason given was that the cleaning ladies found it difficult to lift the old, comfy mattresses so they replaced them. I woke up many morning with aches and pains. If it's a good night's sleep you want on your holiday, you probably won't find it here.
They used to provide white sheets for customers to put down on the sun beds and loungers during the day, those were now absent too on this trip.
The food standards have taken a huge nose dive and I would genuinely not recommend eating there. At the BBQ the chef used the same tongs for raw and cooked meat i.e. he will pick a raw pork chop, place it on the BBQ, then with the same tongs pick up a cooked one and plonk it on your plate. We mentioned it to the staff, as did many others we spoke to, but nothing changed. The food is undercooked too, loads of people had chicken that was pink in the middle, one person had actually eaten half their chicken breast before they noticed.
We spoke to another couple that had an evening meal in the restaurant and their burger had maggots in it.
When the place first opened it genuinely was a premium resort but the decline had already started. Hopefully they get their act together and bring the standards back up to where they were when originally.
I do have to give a shout out to the bar staff who are brilliant, incredibly friendly and make you feel extremely welcome. Absolutely no complaints with them. |

Must admit, and not blaming Venus at all as there was a bug going around, but I ended up being poorly the last 2 days of our holiday and did wonder if it was due to the BBQ...? Might stick to non cooked foods next time. Or not eat. Although that is a waste of money.... |

Zurich. NOT London. |
We stayed there 3 times last year, and several times before that and absolutely loved it! We were due to go again back in April, but have moved the dates to September. We are also booked into one of the suites for 2 weeks at new year. I can't imagine staying anywhere else now. |

We’ve stayed there several times, the last in November 2019, love the place no complaints whatsoever, impeccably clean, great staff, fab facilities, great food, great vibe, can’t wait to get back.
