Can anyone recommend any car hire companies at Alicante airport? Never done it before and looking not to get ripped off and any tips on how to avoid ads on prices would be appreciated.
Many thanks |

All the companies will try to sell you their own insurance pointing out that the excess is over a thousand pounds. So take out your own excess insurance... it will only cost £35 online for a year. They give up when you tell them.
Take your own sat nav or a clamp for your phone.
The queues for the cheaper companies can be long in peak season... we've waited an hour. All of them now have a ticket system, so take your ticket and wait.
Take photos of your car before you drive, and if there are scratches not on the paperwork report them before driving off.
Finally, don't forget to fill up the car before return. They charge ridiculous amounts for refilling.
We've like Record and have used Goldcar and Firefly. |

P.s. not hire car related, but if you use the excellent toll roads don't store the ticket next to your phone. The RF wipes it, and you have to have a conversation with a tinny non english speaking loudspeaker trying to tell you to put it under a camera so they can read it. |

Before moving over here I regularly used hire cars and always found Firefly very good and steered well clear of Goldcar. Since I have been here the deposits have gone sky high. Most part timers I know tend to get the extra ins cover back in England. |

Book direct you get priority in ques and found scratch when leaving back told not to worry as had there insurance |

You can get some great deals on doyouspain.com I've never paid more than £10 for a week's car hire through them and like Ross and suzie said take out the excess insurance here and it does you for a whole year |

Do they still make you pay an excess or deposit even if you have the UK excess insurance? |

You have to have a credit card if you don't take their insurance, to cover the excess.
The fun thing is, you can book a car for Euro 2 a day. When you get there they try their damnest to sell you extra stuff. If you play your cards right, you get a car for a few euros which us essentially funded by all the other customers who get fleeced. |

Hey, next time I go, I’ll try contact u before, so I can pick yr brains, if that’s ok with yrselves .. I’m thinking of driving there later this year if restrictions permit, but thinking of getting to bilbo or Santander and hiring a car from there.. don’t know yet or just fly to Murcia or elsewhere .. but I’ll watch the thread and others |

My advice is to use the car hire companies located in the terminal as the other ones might be cheaper but delays in waiting for shuttle bus etc nearly caused us to miss our flight as regards excess insurance buyer beware I use cartrawler and argos when booking carhire as these search all companies for best price and you can filter yours need their apps can be downloaded on android |

If its just a one off trip, id reccomend centauro, book directly on their website and pay the extra for insurance that brings your excess down to zero. That way you dont have to worry about any damage and you can enjoy your holiday not worrying if anything happens the car. However if you are a frequent traveller and renter then take out your excess insurance policy with a third party and decline the rental company insurance and ensure you have a good credit limit on your card to leave a deposit of over e1000 |

We always use firefly. Excellent service but as others have said get your own excess insurance. Wouldn't touch gold car. Rip off. If you don't want to drive try hoppa couldn't recommend them highly enough |

There is an app called rental cars which searches for deals through a wide range if different companies based on your search criteria. Often, you can book through the app. cheaper than going directly to the rental co. |

"We use Centauro regularly in Ibiza. They seem fair and honest.
Insurance4carhire costs about £50 a year and covers multi trips."
Has anyone any experience of these independent insurance companies as my brother had a bad one |

I use Centauro regularly, but have recently started to use Goldcar as they're more likely to be on-site at the airports I fly into. Also used Doyouspain, they can provide a VERY cheap alternative, especially when booking last minute. |
