If you are out driving for reasons that fit the guidelines I can’t see there being a problem. Police might stop and ask to show their presence which is a good thing.

Spoke to a friend that works in our local one and it’s click and collect on selected items only as of tomorrow and all returns are not possible.

I drove to work this morning and didn’t see one police car. I work in the construction industry and yip I’m one of those idiots still out on site. The reason for this post is today we had people shouting that we should be ashamed and should be at home. Yes we are at work This isn’t through choice my company employ around 50 men and we have all been told that if we fail to attend work then we have no job when this all blows over. People have been posting on social media about us still being there in town working and that we are idiots. Please realise that we do not want to be there anymore than the people saying stay at home but unfortunately the construction industry is like no other. This is a cut throat industry and believe me they would not think twice about getting rid of you and black listing your name among other companies. Been there seen it happen all too often. What we need is the politicians to state all building sites MUST close and not building sites should close. So please spare a thought about some of us who are at work and not through choice. Peace stay safe

The whole point is that people should be sensible enough to do this by themselves. Coming home from work at what is normally rush hour (I’m a nurse before there are any snidey comments about being out), there were 4 people on my bus and princes street was like a ghost town which was nice to see. Hope it continues.

Yeah we can do it by ourselves but that would mean no help from the government. We have bills to pay just like everyone else we have stated we don’t want to be there and we were told don’t come in don’t come back. Construction isn’t a job that sends you home for 2/3 weeks with full pay if you are off you are off. If you create a drama your paid off complain about safety you guessed it payed off. That is why I said the government needs to state they must close down and not they should close. The big companies have stated we will work till we are told to close not asked.

Well said I’m in the same boat and it’s become perfectly clear that an industry that claims to put health and safety at the forefront of what they do clearly money rules over and above and the welfare of their employees is a lowly consideration on their priority’s while the company owners and office staff all work nice and safely from home. I work for one of the largest companies in the lifting industry in this country who push safety. And yet in this present climate are being reactive and waiting on the customer to cancel any jobs rather than being proactive and looking after their front line on the ground work force.

No it doesn’t seam to be working like that. That’s why it’s so important that the government use the correct wording when saying they need to close down. I was in a shop in town today while on my lunch break hard hat on hi viz on clearly at work. The police came in bought some things and left. They know the sites are open they just aren’t doing anything. Construction workers are always treated poorly with site constructions etc. Nothing changes. But the reason for my post wasn’t to moan about that it was just to let people know that we ain’t just ignoring the warnings to suit ourselves we are in actual fact being forced to work for fear of loosing our jobs.

They will be addressing this, was on today about it and nicola stated it is out of employees hands and steps will be taken and discussions made to protect builders and their employees. Watch this space. Thats why police aren't enforcing anything just now, nothing in place just now.

Sad people are giving uz a hard time when your just doing your jobs to provide for your families. We all gotta eat and have roof over our head. Can't all just take it off without things in place.

I'd totally agree. I'm off work at the moment anyway and got plenty time on my hands. I noticed at least five motorbikes go past my house today and considering I live in the back of nowhere , they definitely weren't "going to work or food shopping"

However people need to stop overly concerning themselves with others . Just keep sensible and it'll all calm down in time

Curious on why you have this opinion? If people are driving to the middle of nowhere to go for a walk in wide open spaces is that not better than everyone in the citys, towns and villages decending uppon the limited green spaces available or walking the streats and creating crowds where distancing will be more difficult?

They were given the authority to do so to reduce the spread. If this doesn't work its full lockdown and that will be worse.

They won't stop you when you're in the car by yourself. They have better things to do. If you have a car full of people driving around the centre of Glasgow you might have to explain yourself.

It should be issued on a letterhead. And if your employees are not key workers they shouldn't be in work though.

Companies will be issuing to their employees. Few companies have done this already since yesterday at 6pm.

It's not something they're all doing

Maybe not just now. Transport and food distribution are being issued these now .

Its probably to prepare should full lockdown happen then proof of key worker positions will be needed .

I wish you'd stop stating things as though they're gospel

Misinformation really isn't helpful to anyone right now

No misinformation I'm afraid , people should be aware that these things will bloody happen if people dont abide by the rules which will soon be the law (martial law) .

We are in partial lockdown already to see if that helps reduce the spread, if it doesn't THERE WILL BE FULL LOCKDOWN that is what happens. It's happened to other countries it will happen to us, we are only few weeks behind remember . Better to be in the know than be shocked when it happens.

The letter got given out today to employees, its not bloody made up.

I own a company and I won’t be issuing my employees letters. Anyone can print off a letter and say their work gave them it

It should be issued on a letterhead. And if your employees are not key workers they shouldn't be in work though. "

Anyone can make up a headed letter though. They should be in work

I find it hard to believe the police would stop one person in a car.

They are isolated in the same way they would be alone at home.

The police have plenty on their plate right now without stopping people just in case they're not on the way to get food, go to essential work, deliver takeaways, care for a vulnerable person etc etc etc....

Seen them pulling aside groups of people and checking shops. Not seen any cars being stopped though yea.

I’ve not had any correspondence to say I have to provide my employees with anything. I like to go with official guidance rather than hearsay.

I can’t see police pulling people over either. It would be a massive waste of time as people that don’t have any type of documents just have to say they going to the shops. How can anyone prove otherwise.

Our head office issued them with a contact number Incase you are pulled up by the police. I guess it’s easy enough to fake. I don’t think the government have said anything about it. Our place is just been trying to stay ahead.

Driving is not a problem. Driving is neutral.

It is what you do when you get out of your car that is relevant.

The key worker thing is massively open to interpretation at the moment. Anyone can make a headed letter with a phone number etc. We all cards that say what we do with our pics on them if needed but if we weren’t key workers and still out then we could just say we were going to the shops etc in the unlikely event we were questioned.

Key worker list is on NHS and gov.uk website. Those not on the key workers list should Stay at home. Fines will be imposed if not adhering to rules set out.

Letterheads have employers work number, telephone number, if its a legit letterhead, this can be checked by entering those digets into a hand held gadget

That's right.

If the police want to make checks, it should be to ensure people aren't using public transport when they don't need to and ensure supermarkets aren't admitting too many people.

Stopping one person in a car - as suggested was happening above - would be a complete waste of resources.

I can fake any company letterhead that has sent me a letter or email, it’s very simple. Maybe you interpret the list differently from the way I do but I can see how it’s open to abuse and there are grey areas. Anyway as I have mentioned we haven’t been asked to provide employees with anything

"Curious on why you have this opinion? If people are driving to the middle of nowhere to go for a walk in wide open spaces is that not better than everyone in the citys, towns and villages decending uppon the limited green spaces available or walking the streats and creating crowds where distancing will be more difficult? "

If they break down they will likely need the AA/RAC = infection risk

If they crash they will need the emergency services who will not be as able to help as they usually are and this will just add to an already stressed situation.Plus there is the infection risk.

If they need fuel then they risk catching/spreading covid to key workers who also need fuel.

Police will be able to issue "unlimited fines" to those who do not comply with new rules on social distancing, the health secretary has told the House of Commons.

Matt Hancock told MPs that gatherings of more than two people in public are now banned and said police would be enforcing the new rule with fines.

"These measures are not advice, they are RULES and will be enforced, including by the police with fines starting at £30 up to unlimited fines for non compliance," he said.

Speaking on Monday night in a televised address to the nation, Mr Johnson said: "No Prime Minister wants to enact measures like this.

"I know the damage that this disruption is doing and will do to people’s lives, to their businesses and to their jobs.

"And that’s why we have produced a huge and unprecedented programme of support both for workers and for business.

"And I can assure you that we will keep these restrictions under constant REVIEW. We will look again in three weeks, and relax them if the evidence shows we are able to.

"But at present there are just no easy options.

I think there’s been a lot of information and misinformation in the past few days. The police will know better than me lol.

I just try and keep up to date with the gov website but we’ve had guys out working all over the central belt and not had any questions asked.

I went up to pick him up and was stopped by the police going into Inverness and had to explain where I was going. As I was waiting for the hubby I noticed the police driving by checking if my story was true

You seem to be taking this personally. I’m only giving my personal experience. Today I’ve been to Kilmarnock and Falkirk so since Tuesday I’ve covered most of the central belt and seen less police than usual. I seen the tweet and newspaper article about pollok park but even when I’ve been in there with the dog I haven’t seen any police myself. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was faked by them to warn people that they could do this.

Like I said in post Police Scotland Air unit, just go on there and you will see but also a link below from the scotsman

Yes we have a military family and hubby ex miltarty and the reason they are not telling anyone is to prevent mass panic but are preparing when it hits full lockdown. They all will be out patrolling and curfew will come i to place.

I don't believe information should be withheld and believe everyone should know what's coming as it will make people abide by rules set out to prevent these measures but goverment obviously think delaying us that information is right thing to do.

Because if you listen to the news and announcements, what they aren't saying directly they are saying indirectly. Ie Boris said we will "review" in 3 weeks. So in other words we in partial lockdown where goverment is relying on police to patrol (has been slow process) and make sure people are abiding by rules , so what's the next step in 3 weeks time (2 weeks time now) if the spread hasn't eased off, people are still dying people still arent abiding by rules ???? Boris has said it himself " putting more serious steps in place. What's next after a partial lockdown??? Its a Full lockdown

Understanding what happens in partial lockdown ie police patrolling, asking that we all stay at home and asking all to abide by rules to taking more serious steps, that being Full lockdown, military comes in, curfews are instantly put in place, boarders closed and you will no longer be asked to stay at home, you will be told stay at home !!. Its happening in other countries and we are only weeks behind.

I actually understand what is being said and I understand that when people don't abide to laws other measures are brought in. Police patrolling and stopping people, this was mentioned in the news few weeks ago that it would happen if there was an increase of deaths and if people didn't listen to advice given

it's all been said by Boris himself. In his stuttering ways....

That is why I said the government needs to state they must close down and not they should close. The big companies have stated we will work till we are told to close not asked. "

Name and shame them mate get it all over social media

A few of my mate work for Balfour beattie and they refused to go in to work but Balfour beattie are still open on there big Edinburgh site.

They recently won an award for being a caring construction company hope that gets publicly taken from them.

But as we all know in the game money talks and there would have been plenty of back handers going about for them to win that.

Absolute discrace of a company

Stay home stay safe save lives

"Not seen any army yet however my son is has been moved up to RAF Leuchers in preparation for patrolling the streets.

If they aren’t telling anyone, how do you know?

So basically it’s your opinion and you don’t actually know. That’s the way you interpret it

You believe what you want hahaha, geezo common sense can't be taught . If in a few when they review how things are going and we don't have the military patrolling, then u have my permission to come back and stick fingers up at me for what you think are my opinions . Note the death rate in Scotland has risen.

When I mentioned military family. It really went over your head huh. Like someone above mentioned military are preparing for patrolling streets. Why are they prepared?? for what???

"

I thought they weren’t telling anyone hahaha But they’ve told you so you can tell all of fab. Hopefully they weren’t sworn to secrecy.

Anyway I couldn’t actually care less what they do I’m classed as a key worker therefore free to go about my business normally.

"Managed to drive from town I stay in and back to drop children at dads without being stopped.

I think most people with a couple of brain cells can figure out what the next steps are without needed write a full essay.

Most people aye but being questioned there's no short answers. Without continuous questions to follow.

What? "

I think it means don’t question anything and accept everything you are told.

"If I get stopped by the fuzz they better keep their diseased distance from me.

??? Can you explain

Probably cannot explain such a stupid comment!!! "

Pretty simple. I have only been within 2 meters of 2 other people for more than 2 weeks. The last thing I need is some diseased copper pawing my drivers license. They can piss off.

"Well I've got a horse to maintain so unless they want to follow me to where he is stabled then they will need to take my word for it "

Animal welfare. You are fine. You just can't take horse out on a trek or ride the horse anywhere.

Turn out to field. Clean feed Stable etc. But no riding. I believe that's the guidance.

Bus and rail and ferry companies need to be checking if journeys are necessary... loads of people still travelling and deciding to relocate to different parts of the country for no valid reason

It’s almost like some people haven’t got the memo

Police have got controls in place to minimise this, I doubt the police want to be handling people’s ID or be interactive with possibly infected people.

I see on twitter the chief medical officer for Scotland was seen up in Fife walking across a golf course close to her holiday with her hubby and children

So much for rules about non-essential travel

Fife

I use my motorbike to get to/from work and I have have to ride through some pretty rural areas to get there, maybe not just make assumptions about what people are doing out and concern yourself with your own actions?

"Working from home and a colleague asked on chat if it was ok to go and return wallpaper to BandQ seeing as they're open!!!! more worryingly a few other colleagues replied yes seeing as they're open!"

Well I suppose if you've realised you've overspent and your skint and really need the money then a return could be pretty essential

My son is key worker and the police have regualry been stopping into his shop to buy things and they are defo handing out fines and stopping folk, one of the officers has said he's issued 60fines since it was rolled out and he's had folk out on their bikes cycling 30miles etc

As for army etc there just aren't enough troops you'll have a handful in most towns and most will be deployed to large urban areas of we do get to that stage, yesterday the police were out on mass particularly pulling over caravaners and turning them around as folk flocked to the seaside etc wtaf lol

Somewhere over there

Ian had letter issued from his company and was driving solo and got stopped on way back from work.

Yes someone could fake a letter, but it should be on letterhead and the HQ should have a note of who has been issued with one, so if the cops called to verify the person was indeed working; it should be legit (maybe an assigned code) ?

Yeah the daily reports of 100s of lives being lost every day is obviously something that makes yourself and your other friend yawn a lot too since you seem determined to stand by your right to leave your house multiple times a day .

The police will not be wasting resources checking people driving in cars.

They're too busy dealing with increased domestics and people assaulting others by spitting and coughing claiming they have the virus.

The country has gone mad

You need to stop worrying about people who are no danger nor bother to anyone. Find yourself another bone man, you're getting more tedious than fucking lockdown
