Is it just me or has anyone else noticed there seems to be a lot less sex shops around Edinburgh in the last 5 years?
Are there any good ones around still? What about across the central belt and the rest of Scotland?
Where does everyone get their gear these days? Are there better websites than Lovehoney and Ann Summers?

I'd say most get from lovehoney, bondara etc. You still do have your high street Ann summers in Edinburgh and at least one private shop. In Glasgow there is a really good (slightly pricey) sex shop call Luke and jacks. But yeah, slim pickings |

There used to be a few good ones in Edinburgh I think maybe one or 2 shut down maybe because most people buy online now for convenience I might be wrong though

There was 5 in Edinburgh at one point about 15 years ago. Leather and lace on Drummond Street and Easter Road, erogenous just round the corner from after8, another much larger erogenous zone at Gorgie across from mcdonalds. That mainly sold outfits etc.... And private lines on Leith walk which i believe is the only one still open. |

Having previously worked in one (many years ago) the demand and main reason for existing has gone.
The main drive for the “licences” shops was in order to supply “R18” rated pornography. R18 content seems pretty mild by not only today’s internet standards, but even by the standards of what some people have on their phone’s album!
The dildos, bondage kit, etc, was a way of making the most of the space which wasn’t filled with racks of videos and mags.
Much of the stock was either “novelty” tat (Smiffy’s cheap wigs and outfits, etc) or cheap mass produced items (Arab straps with cracked cheap leather and badly welded rings spring to mind)
You can now buy the cheap tat even cheaper online but without the red face of walking down the stairs into a *gasp* sex shop. If you want higher quality then there are artisan outlets online catering for the widest range if kinks and fetishes.
The only thing that’s maybe missed nowadays is the ability to try on leather and bondage wear. With the right measurements, though, a decent supplier should be able to get the right size for anyone. It also negates the need for “cleanup on aisle three” when some dirty b*stard decides to paint the mirror in the changing cubicle with their Homemade Farrow and Ball “barley mist”.
Some high street suppliers have nailed the higher quality side, such as Anne Summers, but even then there is heaps of overpriced novelty tat which keeps the sales of decent lingerie and sex toys going.

"Has Q Store closed?"
I don't know. I wasn't there that long ago but It's kinda the wrong side of town for me (no that that's that far really) and just wondering if anyone knew of any out the west of the town I had missed or even through towards Glasgow etc. |
