Almost 100 British musicians attended a debate yesterday to discuss how to tackle illegal music downloading.
They released a statement saying persistent offenders should have their bandwidths "squeezed", rather than have their accounts suspended. This would make downlaoading impractical, but leave basic web functions like e mail functional.

hmmm interesting topic... in answer to your question email and simple browsing does not take up a large amount of bandwidth, its the uploading/ downloading that uses it all , along with video streaming from such sites such as youtube , bbc i player etc.
this is an impossible problem to solve purely as it contravenes part of the human rights act (that the internet is free at source). although knowing gordon brown and his cronies, i fear that this will ultimately lead to yet another tax on civil liberties in the not too distant future.
mark my words.... buying cd's or dvd's will be a thing of the past as 'on demand' is the future, whereby users simply purchase the product online to watch or listen to ( in the same way they currenty are with itunes)

we havent bought a cd in years
and prob havent bought a dvd in 2 years now
prob spend the rest of our lifes in jail or need to sell the hous to pay the fine

Two sides to every coin. Yes, there are fat creeps missing the middle of their noses sat at the top.
However, there are also poor (as in finanacially and taken advantage of) micro-bands, (google Aberfeldy, Triple Cobra; I wont bore you with the inumerable list) who soulfully slog their guts out. They really need to support of the public. Ilegal downloads take away even more of the pittance they get fed by the music industry.
We will never reach a communist utopia where everyone gets a fair deal. Not till we evolve a fair bit. We can however, make sure our own actions arent undermining the creativity of the musicians which we love and appreciate so much.
I for one can live with funding some wankers habit if it means decent young indie bands get a chance to mature. |

personally I think there are more important things that the goverment SHOULD be worrying about... and far worse they NEED to deal with on the internet ...

It's already being done.......George Micheal has been selling his misice direct from his website for over a year and you choose how much you pay, if i can remember it's a minimum of £1.00 and you even get to choose which charity it goes too. |

I have Itunes and I love it - I'm one of those peeps that may not like all the songs on an album so prefer to choose individual songs and am happy to pay for them. I do honestly believe that artists should be rewarded financially for their efforts - I'm aware that they don't get a huge percentage of any profits, but nonetheless they should get financial rewards for their talent - if that ceases then perhaps we will miss out on truly great tunes and truly great talents!

For those of you that do file share or listen to loads of music, check out the online streaming sites such as Spotify.
Music is streamed to your PC over the net. They have extensive libraries of music, you can set up playlists and click to buy the music if you want it permenantly.
Its free to use and supported by ads, which in honesty arnt that many really... or pay 9.99 a month for advert free version. The latter also allows you to use it on an Iphone or android phone(download the songs via wifi and play them offline, so no internet connection required once downloaded)

we buy dvds and go to the cinema, never download films however we are not up for shelling out £14.99 on an album of a band, which will only have three songs out of the 12 that are half decent. and the same goes for the compilation albums, i actually DID buy this three cd album of the 90's music for P and disc two and three were shite, waste of money.
mabye the bigwigs should take a look at themselves, for example a Coldplay album will be released, there will be 12 tracks on it, then they will release say 5 songs into the charts from that album and expect fans to buy them too....rip off!! |
