John
2nd day Chinese or Indian is superb. 2 meals for the price of 1. Never had an issue safety wise with it either. "

You can reheat rice, you just need to make sure it's properly heated through just as you do with anything else.
I don't eat takeaways often but where is the difference with homemade left overs & takeout ones? None. Store & reheat properly & that way your not wasting food & your money |

My local Chinese just up and left no note either. My local Indian(left note) is closed for maintenance. Loss a few inches round the waist though. To answer your question it depends where the leftovers are were purchased |

The type of bacteria spores present in rice can survive reheating, part of the reason NHS and REHIS issue specific advise for rice. But if it hasn't killed you yet, keep doing whatever you're doing |

I don't own a microwave so would have to be boiled. I've never gave myself or anyone else food poisoning.
Paella is probably the rice dish I'll re-cook often there is always enough for 2 days. |

Too many people fling perfectly good food out from night before or even left overs from their own cooking.
Just make sure it's food you can reheat.
As an old neighbour once told me if your throwing perfectly good food out you've never really been hungry.

This! Do you think restaurants cook every single dish to order? a lot of things like sauces, oven pastas, steak pie fillings are often cooked in batches

That's something I have never understood and puzzle me. I have never ever heard this before arriving in the UK.
France, Caribbean islands and West African countries do re-heat their rice. Maybe it is the way we cook it

Maybe the rice we grow here is shit...
I think the caution is more about delays between reheating and eating. Since the spores aren't destroyed by heat, any food that cools to ambient temperature before serving can result in bacterial growth. If you eat it straight away there is less risk.
I'm not an expert, but this was drummed into me when I did my food hygiene a long time ago. Maybe it is even outdated advice. |

Just done my food hygiene too and you're right they are very specific/strict about temperature and reheating etc... for food in general.
For the rice, I don't know... am still here |

So I can safely say that the debate is well and truly settled. Majority wins. Yay to leftovers!
Thanks for all the replies, feel free to message me for some awesome leftovers and maybe a little play for dessert |

I'd reheat most takeaway happily, as long as it was cooled and stored properly. Not rice, though - you'll very likely be fine, but there's an off chance Bacillus Cereus could make you very ill.
You can reduce the risk with rice by cooling very quickly/carefully, but it's a pain and I'm too lazy to do that at home. You can get ok-quality packets of cooked rice from the supermarket for under a £1 for a large portion - I just use them if I'm needed cooked rice for a dish. Feels wasteful, but better than praying to the porcelain god... |

Depends on the chinese tbh the wing wah defo gets my vote when it comes to reheating as I've seen the quick turnover in food it's that busy, but mostly yeah if it's reheated properly shouldn't be an issue, never eat cold rice though tbh rice shouldn't really be reheated its got a mega short shelf life as it were, major breeding ground for bacteria, im more Concerned about rice than I am getting salmonella from chicken and eggs etc |
