The tour de forth is a decent sportive, there is also one in Callander at the start of the year.
Loch Ness is a good cycle but the climbs can be a killer. |

"Are any fabers thinking about doing any sportives or some good long runs, as would be great to get some cycling buddies "
Kinross sportive gets a good rep, well organised and 3 different routes of varying distance and climbs. Usually fills up quick, runs towards end of April. |

If you are looking for some cycle rides to join (free), have a look at let's ride website
This I'd part of British cycling and has lists of guided rides that people can sign up to
Distances might be a bit shorter than you want for some of them but they are nice group cycles |

Have done the wall of Talla on a Borders weekend, along with Mennoch pass.
Entered for Etape Loch Ness in April, and considering Callander sportive. Think I've missed Caledonia Etape.
Member of local club but not out often enough of late!! My bad! |

there are some good sportive the thing that puts me off is the price what in effect is riding on public roads. with some wanting over £80 to enter ill wait till the next day and do it for free.
long distance rides this year include the nc500, coast to coast England, caledonian way, and might do the hebredian way again. |

Only entering the Fat Lad At The Back Up North in May and Wensum Valley in September...any others I fancy I'll transpose the gps to a start point of choice on the route and "stumble" across the sportive, lets face it, 99% are on open roads... |

"Generally refuse to pay £35 for a couple of gels and a plastic medal to cycle on a public road...."
Tour de Lauder is £36 all money to charity, 4 brilliant food stops and a medal that doubles as a bottle opener. I'm always happy to donate money for that level of service! |

All the £36 minus expenses etc. I have paid for many over the years. Its usually a very dangerous mix of cyclist of very different skill levels and experience. Thats the main reason for not partisipating but it is good to meet other fellow minded folk at these events. |

Fair enough. I still think it's good value for a well run event, but then I do triathlons which really know how to charge. |
