"Have just applied for a job in Strasbourg...and I can't speak French.....PMSL "
I lifted this from the Aberdeen Press and Journal. I've deleted the lassie's name.
""European Commission officials have been criticised for withdrawing a “dream” job offer to a native Scottish Gaelic speaker as she does not speak the Irish version of the language.
XXXXXXXXXXXXX, of Grimsay, between Benbecula and North Uist, had been scheduled to start work as a fisheries socio-economist with the commission’s joint research centre in Ispra, Italy, on Monday until bosses discovered she did not speak Irish Gaelic.
The 26-year-old was told she needed to have a good grasp of an “official” European Union language and has been given until December to learn one – even although the job is an English-speaking post"
So, she was born in the Scottish Hebrides and can't get an English speaking job in Italy cos she can't speak Irish Gaelic |

I wouldn't be too hasty. You could probably argue that refusing to give you a job constitutes a breach of your human rights and that compelling you to remain in Scotland is a 'cruel and unusual punishment'.
Total bullshit of course but it could keep the courts tied up for years. |
