Read today that a BBC DJ has banned The Pogues Christmas song from his show because of the language in it. (References to f@ggot and an old slut on junk).

I've got so used to hearing it over the years and singing along on auto pilot too, that I'd almost forgot about these words.

PC brigade gone mad or appropriate for the times we live in?

"Which dj n station? "

"DJ Alex Dyke of BBC Radio Solent has angered some listeners by arguing that the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl track should be banned due to its lyrics."

Read it in The metro ....think the guy has previous for being a fanny though.

Yep, think that was due to the overall "vibe" of the song after the MeToo movement became more visible in the media.

I would expect that anybody who sings the lyrics these days know what they mean and aren’t singing that out of malice, but out of just enjoying the tune.

I have gay friends who sing it and have no problem with it. Simply because they know it was recorded in the past.

Yes, some people have now interpreted the lyrics to infer..

‘Baby it’s cold outside, so why not stay inside so I can pump you’ clearly the bloke with the nice cosy house is a predator

The term F@ggot in he song apparently refers to, being lazy. Which was an irish meaning of the word years ago.

The word slut is probably the most offensive part. Im sure young kid's even many teenager's wouldn't know what Junk is refering too.

Brilliant song though

The version I heard yesterday blanked out f@ggot, but could clearly hear slut.

Wouldnt call him a fanny they are usefull things!!

This world is so fecked just now and that asshole moans about a classic song like this. Snowflakes sadly no longer just relate to things that fall from the sky and make a christmas scene and this is a prime example of that. Easy answer the radio has an on / off switch just vote like that and the fud will maybe wake up and smell reality. Glad i aint heard of the 'so called DJ' perhaps just an attention seeking stunt there by the cockwomble
