This post was not of the intention to start a debate on politics more just to see if there was anyone going that I could meet up with for a blether. The reason I put it in this forum is because it's only really relevant to people who live in Scotland/Aberdeen area.

You need Westminster to approve it and it wont come from a Unionist Government. And don't think John McDonalds wee 'sit on the fence and appease the nationalists' rant gets you anywhere.
Labour will not be in Government as when the next election comes. The LibDems will take a mass of the existing Labour seats so you'll find between the Tories, UDP and Liberals will collectively Govern and that means no indy vote 2.

When Brexit happens on the 31st October and we leave the EU independence is dead as Scotland won't get into the EU without applying and meet the stress tests
On economics etc and it will years by that time we would be broke and rueing the day we ever left our closest ally and trading partner the rest of the UK.
I do though believe devolution has been generally good for us.

Personally I’m not for independence despite being brought up by a father who would have fought for his country.
I’m against the marches/rallies as they usually stir up trouble regardless of who is protesting.
The last independence referendum caused arguments with families and friends, why would you want to stir it all up again. |

Unfortunately economic ultimately shut down those industries along with the bloody mindedness of the unions who thought they were kingpin to dictating to everyone.

I very much doubt that Scotland have the tax paying population to run itself as an independent state without running cap in hand to Brussels . . Getting into Europe is quite another matter. At the moment it doesn't qualify fiscally to get automatic entry |

All the vote did was divide Scotland further. I voted to remain I am not into politics my main reason to vote remain was because of what brave young men sacrificed for our futures. I never voted last time as I was stuck offshore on a oil rig, I would have voted no anyway. But now that we got screwed with leaving the eu, Am for voting yes next time.
It pissed me off with the lies. Westminster said oil running out , bull shit. We have massive oil fields off the west of Shetland and down most of the west coast of Scotland. Big companies was stock piling it to fuck Russia up at the time and driving the oil price down. The big u.s companies played the government to get new prospecting contracts and tax cuts on oilfields.
We will never have a say in Westminster as we are only a small nation of 5.5 million.
Think it's time for us to sculpt our own future rather than deal with the shit we are left.
I blame labour for fucking everything up and landing us with a Tory gov.

Take our oil n gas out of the picture. We still have distilleries, farming, fishing, tourism, education is a big thing hence all the student accom going up all over glasgow.
We have our engineering, technology and sciences.
We do have a lot going for us. Nothing stopping us becoming like the Scandinavian countries that are very similar to us with population and resources.
They seem to be doing ok for them self

Don’t know you or anyone else on this and I know I come across arrogant sometimes but it annoys me as this is more to do with younger generations as I’m a lot older so no impact on me but have young nieces and nephews who have to live with independence stuff for generations to come and divide people it’s so wrong and yeh politicians are just trying to prove a point and would be better if all parties come together for a change , I have lost count how many times I have suffered with job losses due to politics .The misery it had caused not just for me but millions others over the many years .Im prob one of the many who are more fortunate and can get jobs easily but sad for others .
Anyway enough said and iif independent was true vote came around the first time I would have respected that however sick of hearing it all the time now the so are many others and time to move on snp and produce employment for Scotland instead of driving business away and help poverty stricken families/people plus do what they said and get rid of food banks however fact this has increased dramatically since SNP came to power .

I'm not scared of independence I just don't see it working, as independence is a myth as snp want to leave the UK to be independent but grovelling around desperate to join the EU so where in that is it independence as we will be under the EU rules laws and monetary control.

It’s why I don’t debate at all with no voters as it always gets personal I have no interest in arguing the toss we are all entitled to an opinion. It’s not about who rule over us eu or westmonster it’s about making our own rules and still being part of the EU we cannot sustain ourselves without costing a fortune our climate just doesn’t allow it, em EU countries will pump up prices of their produce which we all enjoy from pasta to fruits as believe it or not UK is not a well liked country. I don’t hate the English mum and half my family are English so that myth is out the window. We can do so much better we have gave the world so much for such s little country |

Well it goes against the idea it's running out any time soon. In reality the reason production has reduced is because the price of a barrel has reduced from £100 in 2011 to £30 today. Production is always a function of price. I don't think it's running out but as I have said it's a mute point. By the way great post OP. World oil doesn't matter in terms of the Scottish economy, oil in the North Sea is what matters and it's very clear that it is running out. You just need to look at any graph showing production from 1999 onwards, it's dropped massively. No one is forecasting it will increase.
Oh today the Norwegian company EQUINOR has started production from the bumper Mariner oil field East of Shetland following a multi-billion dollar investment. Enough said.
You still haven't shown a single oil forecast that shows it isn't declining and running out. You can even use those from the Scottish Govt if you like.
As for the above field above was discovered in 1981, as it opens others close.
Pmsl what did I say? Oil is running out as it's a limited resource, yes it was found years ago but not feasible to obtain. Tech changes and now we can access it.
Like all the oil in the west coast we know is there but can't really get just now. Yes as other close new ones open. Just like as people retire new jobs are created.
I think people always like to look at negitives. Oil prices drop. But all the big top oil companies have done deal for set prices. Just like your gas provider does with our domestic rate. But shhhh gas is running out too and water and air and trees and the land and fish and food. If only the way forward was to manage it all and not sell it all off like Westminster does with everything.

As I read through this thread I laughed out loud.. If we all had a magic ball to predict the outcomes of any referendums would make it all so much simpler.
No one is right or wrong as no one actually knows if independence or brexit would work or not, it's all a gamble those that say no are afraid to make the leap and those who say yes are optimists and are looking to make thing a better..
However to shout down people's views is not democratic its ignorant and bullying to assume that your views are better than others.

Sick pay what's that? I started a new job and injured my knee in the second week.I got singed off,no sick pay for 3 months and lost my job because I was unable to go in to work.What did the union do? Fuck all.So I dont like any union.  |

Now for the record I am not political and rarely vote.
I voted for independence though.
I lost and will move on.
The continuous let's have another vote brigade makes a mockery of the whole system I think. Both in Indy and Brexit.( Never voted in Brexit so I can't complain).
Anyway was approached one day by 2 youths from an official indy stand last time and because I was heading to bookies to get a line on told them politely sorry don't have time to which there reply was f* off ya F*ing c* even though I was a supporter thugs jumping on the bully wagon same ones will be out again. |
