I am touring Scotland completing the NC500 with a friend from 20th July for 4 nights. Starting in Inverness and finishing in Fort William.
Anyone got any ideas as to where we can head as we make our way round. Any naughty offers or advice for our journey would be much appreciated.

You should try the North East 250 too, we loved it.
It's the ultimate road trip to the heart of Scotland consisting of 250 miles, Scotland's newest tourist route takes you through Speyside, the Cairngorms, Royal Deeside, Aberdeen, the East Coast and the Moray Coast.
Through each of these areas you can explore everything for which Scotland is famous, including whisky, gin, golf, mountains, nature, history and heritage, and lots more! |

We went over from Rogart to Scourie and then down to Ullapool - the road over from East to West was stunning as was the beach at Scourie.
Ullapool was stunning, the sun was shining but we could see the incoming storm and it was a breath taking sight.
Bike is the best way to see it all, even if you do nearly crash taking it all in lol
Places to stay - the sleeper trains at Rogart are a funky bunk house |

We are just back and we went achmelvich, john o groats, thurso loch ness, then because the weather was so bad decided to hit oban and was worth every second, plenty of lovely views and sights and even better pubs for night time, if you are doing it do it over the course of 5 days and take your time seeing everything !! |

We’ve got a great wee group going in the bikers forum and we meet fairly regularly and we’re planning on doing a good few rides and camping trips over to the islands, probably will add this to the list as well now we’re all growing in confidence and getting to know each other so much more, happy to add folks to our Kik group after meeting us and coming out with us sometime, my bike is getting fixed at the minute but I’m sure the boys or vixy could add the days and times they’re meeting out on the forum post if anyone’s interested |

"Would love to own a camper/motorhome and just do it leisurely
Lifegoals right there...gonna have to do this some time."
I'm in the middle of building a new campervan for myself and plan to head of and tour Scotland for a couple of years, working as I go . I've been planning it for years and can't believe I'm almost there |

"best advice is to take plenty of midgie lotion...and enjoy
Iv got the stuff from Avon that people rave about.
Time will tell on that one "
It’s not the same formula as it used to be it’s ok but not as good as it was dog spray for ticks and fleas the natural
Stuff works better |

I've done the NC500 on a motorbike, before it was called the NC500, at least in stages.
The roads that dissect Sutherland are Stunning and better as you'll be on quieter roads.
The roads by Loch Loyal, Shin, and Naver are worth exploring.

The road by Loch Shin up to Scourie is beyond stunning- I was in danger of crashing because I couldn’t stop looking at everything. Totally breath taking |

I’d also suggest Glen Loth as another alternative. West of Lairg is beautiful. Falls of Shin at Lairg nice for food.
But by god the ord road in Caithness is bleak!
Achmelvuch beach and Sandwood bay are beautiful.
Nice gift shop in Golspie and the Capaldis I’ve cream shop is also worth a visit.
Oh and if you like cream a Gows dream ring (phnarr) |

Food for thought now, I'm booked in the first 2 nights at Applecross and then Durness, after that I can ad hoc the trip. See what my mate says. Thank you |

And if you don't fancy a drive all the way out to durness, there's a cocoa mountain in Dornoch.
And an amazing range of whisky in the Castle plus they make their own gin. |

"I did it many years ago, long before it was called the NC500. I bet it has changed lots. Bigger roads, lots more traffic. I hope I'm wrong."
One of the issues for us up here is the complete lack of infrastructure to support the NC500.
There has been no investment in the roads, Highland Council have in fact closed a number of public toilets on the route due to austerity.
There are not enough passing places on the single track roads, and those there, are too small when there are groups of vehicles travelling together.
There is a shortage of parking at popular tourist spots leading to folk just parking and blocking the road. |
