Chilling, terrifying and compelling insight into the mental condition... but, do you hold with that thought... illness or evil?? Discuss if you would my dear fabbers.

I thought she was amazingly strong but agree she should go into hiding for the child she’s had since then. He is ill and institutionalised - definitely not capable of functioning in society

Agree in that something he said too re being on a spectrum. However there’s a huge difference when your “wiring and triggers” are so sensitive/fucked up that you kill... can’t see that you’re wrong and everyone else is at fault. At this point in our understanding of mental health and how the brain functions... he shouldn’t be freed.

Male. Most but not all violent killers are - certainly true in serial killers though there are exceptions.

I hear you but admire her immensely as she said, the unconditional love of a mother but well aware how dangerous he is. I think she might change her mind for Phoenix (the new child) when he gets nearer to being released. Can’t imagine how she must feel

My opinion is that it starts off as an illness and morphs into an evil. The majority of psychopaths are actually more likely to be in politics, law or banking; than a serial killer.

The word psychopath can mean anything though, due to it not being an actual diagnostic label. Anti social personality disorder is the most likely label to describe it. Though, the majority of killers are more likely to be borderline or, intellectually challenged.

I think that’s where the spectrum theory comes in - so other factors may exacerbate the condition like upbringing, social environment, family and so on.

Was once told Everyday, every person, walks the thin line of sanity, it only takes one small missed step to take to insanity.

It’s so true

managed to watch it today.

mum is maybe still holding out hope he might get help (although probably knows there isn't any that could change him)

Paris - I wonder if he showed any real signs prior to the murder of being completely different to his peers.

'The Experts' were so dramatic I couldn't take them seriously

Piers - he is such a dick!!

I am fascinated by mental health and all it's variations. I don't think people realise just how important it is for children to have good mental health in childhood to develop into healthy adults and for any signs of poor mental health to be recognised immediately and acted upon.

Would this have helped Paris before it was too late - who knows!!

It never actually said why he hated his mother that much to do what he did?

In the home videos he seemed a normal playful child..then when he asked the question what's the worst sentence you can say to you he seemed still happy?

Jealousy of the sister perhaps? He was an only child until she came.

yeah I don't think they were trying to understand him or why he did what he did. I feel Piers was just there to look big talking to a psychopath without really finding anything out.

Jealous of the sister and no mention of a father figure.

I have seen evil as a real force. I have seen it work in people and manifest in various actions. Yes people have mental illness and what they do can be seen as evil but there's a difference between them. The boys who killed Jamie Bulger are evil...

We really know very little about how the brain works but we’re learning. The “hard wiring” of why people do almost anything is in how the subtle chemistry of our bodies work. This is translated into behaviour patters. Nature and nurture play there part. This guy is a psychopath, he is ill (by normal standards) as pointed out he cannot be cured. A major “symptom” is an utter lack of empathy and compassion for human suffering. Alas he CANNOT or should not be let out. It’s sad because he is a human being but make no mistake he would kill again if released. Just my opinion.

They were children when they committed this atrocious crime and may have been subjected to substantial abuse and neglect and witnessed things they should have had no knowledge of at that age.

If they are in fact evil now then society as well as their families are to blame. These boys were entitled to a childhood filled with love and safety but appear to have been denied this and there will have been people in their community aware of the neglect yet nobody intervened.

Early intervention is key to a child’s healthy development and we all have a part to play in that.
