I saw that a train from Glasgow to London will have a dedicated "chat" carriage tomorrow. Apparently it's an attempt to try and tackle social isolation and get folk interacting more.
Thoughts?
Suppose you could always avoid the carriage if it's not your thing. I'm fairly chatty and find it easy to speak to most folk but would welcome a long train journey for a bit of peace and quiet. |

Nice idea, but it'll be luck of the draw in regard to speaking with someone you really get on with.
Starter questions can range from:
- What do you like to out in your rolls?
- Do you like square or links sausage?
- Describe yourself in 60 seconds without using I?
- Other than talking, writing or acting out sex, what is your favourite past time? |

Get on a plane, first thing I do is stick the earphones in even though half the time I'm not listening to music. Can't be arsed having to make chat with people I chose not to.
Might be different if I ever got to sit beside the hottie on the plane but that never happens, and if it did I'd still be aware that she prob couldn't be arsed with my patter either. |

London is a cunt of a place for interaction and can be very lonely, asking someone for the time is met with a look of horror and ignorance.
I'd imagine the train to London to be the same and this in mind and the evolution of the smart phone I think it's a non starter. It would just all be a bit fucking weird like people in general. |

Personal attack ! You’re one to talk seem to recall a particularly nasty personal attack at me just a short while ago ! Somehow though you managed to avoid any repercussions strange that, rules for one and rules for everyone else |

I've heard of some cafes trying to do something similar where there is a "chat" table. Suppose there are a lot of lonely folk out there which is a shame. |

Very much so, I often will go sit beside pensioners and chat away if they’re alone and have always encouraged my kids to make an effort with folk, it’s easy to tell the folk who want to be alone from the ones who are alone through circumstance, some of my most interesting conversations have been struck up with strangers. Firm believer in the next stranger you cross paths with could very well be the new best friend you’re yet to meet |

No really they just come into the Fab scottish forum and trash talk others , like childish keyboard warriors. Maybe this train carriage thing might ease the forum lonliness probs we have. |

I think it’s a great idea and may help someone who is feeling lonely or travelling for a sad reason. It’ll probably only be outgoing people that would go in to it though.
I think it’s sad that cafes and restaurants are having to provide incentives to give up our phones and talk to each other. A restaurant is giving 10% off if you lock your phones away.
I had a quick conversation in the lift yesterday with a random stranger. |

My “me” time is minuscule ... so naw for me... I used to hate (when I had my wee dog) heading out to enjoy some alone time and then other dog walkers saying ohhh hello yadda yadda, I’ll walk with you... ehhh naw!! Me and she liked the solitude and calm |

I think it's a great idea, and if it doesn't work, then no harm done. There is also the option to leave the carriage if you try it and don't like it.
I believe a taxi company (can't remember where) are going to trial a button on there app where you can just opt out of chatting to the driver.
I'd personally be happy to sit in the chatty coach on the train. There'd be trouble if I had to share my carry out though! |

That's your opinion and that's what you like doing but it'd be debated on here before and the overwhelming majority of those involved didn't wish to talk to a stranger. Now assuming these strangers are too polite to tell you to bugger off and leave them alone and merely engage in conversation because it's being forced on them you should consider what the majority of people say on here as this is a cross sectional representation of society. Maybe you're not right! |

How awkward would it be if you were sat next to a dumpling, ask the conductor to move you to another seat , then you sit down and someone else starts rambling because its the chatty carriage.
Again i say it wont work. |

I'd still be very reluctant to share my White Lightening.
On a serious note, it's definitely something that is worth trailing.
As a frequent train traveller of over 20 years, I remember the good old days on trains before personal technologies and as long as you had a deck of cards and a few beers you could make loads of pals for couple of hours.
The smoking carriages on the old GNER trains were like moving pubs! Sounds minging now, but what a laugh and a carry on you used to get in those.

Well considering only a very small minority cross section of society are actually likely to be on a website like fab I think you can easily see it doesn’t add up ! And an even smaller minority who actually post on the forums more so doesn’t take a genius to work that out, pretty sure the fab demographic wouldn’t cover a bad hair of society as a whole defo would get far doing any market research wi you |

Some of the Funniest conversations have been spontaneous and random with folk I've never clapped eyes on. Great idea to fill the boredom if you choose to. I'd sit for an hour and then chill in another carage in peace for the rest of the journey |

But there is no way you can say that it's not a cross sectional representation?? Lots of people on here aren't swingers in the traditional sense and people are from all walks of like and social classes. It doesn't matter how small the sample is it's still a reasonable representation. Let's not get into the power of the study and statistics |

I'm ok with random folk chatting but not for a long period of time.
But maybe suppose all you would have to do is go on your phone to avoid a lengthy conversation? |
