Best dramatisation of a real event since Hillsborough and Bloody Sunday. Excellent writing, first class cast. If it doesn't win a load of awards it'll be a travesty.

Interestingly, it seemed to be more anti-lying fuckwit than anti-nuclear.

Watching last one tonight or tomorrow

We have enjoyed it but got us thinking , that was 30 odd years ago , the advances in nuclear energy etc has probably advanced...who knows how bad it would be if a place like that had an accident again??

Watched the last one today, crazy how the soviet union officially stopped counting deaths immediately and left it at 31 or something

And to know there are still around 10 of the same reactors still in operation in eastern europe (modified for safety ofcourse)

Watched the final episode last night - amazing stuff! Like mentioned above, the acting and attention to detail is amazing and it will no doubt clean up at awards.

Not sure how/why it got immediately voted the greatest show of all time on IMDB well before the show finished airing, but hey...

And I will vote also for When They See Us if you're looking for your next awesomely acted and detailed, grim drama mini-series based on real events...

I kinda wished they had proper accents as the Glesga coal miner was just pushing it a bit. Overall an absolute cracking piece of TV and well worth the watch.

The accents do not bother me, what would bother me is if they all had false Russian accents.

Just watching this now and he actually is Scottish that coal miner! It's Alex Ferns, best known for playing Trevor the wife beater in Eastenders.

I can testify that he is as big a wanker as he was in Eastenders.....I grew up with him in a wee village North of Glasgow before the family emigrated to South Africa

In observation, I'd have preferred if it was Ukrainian/Russian region actors and subtitled, but that's picking at straws. That wouldn't have exported as well though.

I'm a little confused at why HBO didn't use American actors for this, given they would have had a good idea how big a hit this was going to be.

Didn't use Americans because of the accent funnily enough. They felt it was fine using non Russian accents but having American accents would just've been too much.

I’be just got the last one to watch. It’s been incredible tv, if a little harrowing at times.

The accents haven’t bothered me - the writers said they didn’t want actors to put on local accents as it would have run the risk of making them sound like caricatures. But as someone mentioned already, the didn’t want to use American as that might have seemed a bot much.

Oh, and the IMDB rating that someone mentioned. It’s not been voted the best tv show as such, just had the highest rating on there that propel can start leaving after ep 1. Think it was probably Breaking Bad that held that record.
