OMG just watched this documentary on the care Home. Feel sick to my stomach. No doubt it must be a very difficult job to look after vulnerable adults but my God, some of those apparent carers filmed in this are despicable people.

Absolutely disgusting watching the carers treating the vulnerable people like that and even more disgusted with the way the guys were talking , must admit was hard to watch and not ashamed to say as a guy bought a wee tear to the eyes . Hope they all get jailed

Having worked in OT for over 20 years and as a Care Manager, the amount of abuse that goes unrecorded is staggering.

Due to the low wages and work involved the position of care worker is often overlooked which forces private care companys to look elsewhere.

The background checks and previous experience fall by the wayside to get people into positions to maintain a stable workforce.

It's a horrible scenario which only thorough regulation and enforcement can it slowly start to be rectified.

absolutely agree that low wages for a demanding job does not help with good staff retention which ultimately results in abuse at times.

It is such a shame as there are fabulous care workers out there doing their very best and then their reputation is tarnished by the cruel ones who are in the minority as far as I am aware.

Agree with both these replies - horrible to think people get treated this way but wages don't reflect the work and the Care Sector wages are pitiful. It shouldn't be an excuse but the reality is it doesn't help. It was hard to watch and even harder to believe these poor people were treated this way by other "human beings".

It disgusts me, that’s why I struggled with care work, when I did do it I preferred to work agency and do home care on my own, often when I did nursing home or partnered shifts I wanted to knock someone out, generally was t anything horrific like you hear about but lack of respect more than anything, I was always late and my six hour shift would end up 7/8 hours because I’d sit and chat everyone else’s wanted finished as quick as they could, a few folk a lot rougher than was needed often forgetting how fragile service users were. I couldn’t ever switch off and took my work home Eventually couldn’t stomach the job and went into engineering instead

This is so tragic too, we lose the good people because of the bad and how poorly the whole shebang is run. I have family in the care sector so I get how you feel Violet

I understand, that must’ve been awful for you. I thought the same about the young under cover reporter. She was traumatised at times, something likely to stay with her forever x

As someone who works in acute healthcare (not LD like in the programme) I was disgusted.

I hope this will trigger an investigation and subsequent disciplinary action and criminal investigation. I thought after the scandal at winterbourne view there would be no more of this.

holed up in their houses will be least of their worries if they get charged with abuse/assault

I’ve met some lovely carers over the years, can’t imagine that bosses or supervisors didn’t know these people were like this. Surely there must’ve been concerns, they all seemed to be in on it except the under cover reporter x

I agree with you Missunstable that’s what the sssc was set up for and yes should all be jailed for assault and mental abuse , does give carers a bad name as I’m one .

And GMCFUNS spot on
