Is anyone going to see the planes at Prestwick Airport on Saturday? There are lots of old planes spending the weekend at Prestwick before they go to France for the 75th anniversary of the D-day landings.
Should be a good day out.

"I regularly attended the Scottish Air Show at Prestwick Airport in the 70s, it was a brilliant day out"
My uncle used to take me to the airshows then as well. I’ve been to Ayr for the airshows when they started up again. |

My uncle was a pilot and we'd go all over to the uk to the airshows. Don't have a memory of Prestwick ones but we'd even spend evenings just watching commercial jets take-off/land! He was my action man hero lol
Took me until my 40s to realise I was looking for a man like him hahah |

"I'm old enough to remember family trips to Prestwick to see the planes from the viewing gallery. "
I remember that too. Kept us kids quite for a wee while when waiting for the flight. In the good old days before the Internet and checking everything online you could end up seeing a lot planes if your flight was delayed! |

Back in the 70s our school trips involved a day at Prestwick Airport and beach, you were lucky if you saw 2 planes take off or land while you were there.

The prototype for Concorde landed in 1972 and it became a training centre for Concorde pilots. |

I was later in going down due to issues with the trains. Fortunately a fab friend came to my rescue and gave me lift.
Hope you enjoyed. There were some gorgeous American crewmen and some great vintage uniforms. Glad I made the effort to go. |

Was there with the organisers.. A fantastic rare gathering. Amazing that these aircraft are outlasting those that built them and those that currently own them after surviving the war. Cant beat living history. |

It was great to see them up close. These planes are outlasting the modern planes as well. Just a shame I won’t see them leave on Monday. Would be great to hear them. |

I know.. Its quite amazing they were built at the rate of one every 8 minutes or something and only designed to last a couple of years of wartime activity yet they are still going strong. Some of the first big airbus A380s are already in the scrapyards in Mojave... |
