There seems to be a lot of repeated/similar forums posts popping up these days. Should fab have a facility to merge these posts? Are people too lazy to do a forum search?

I'm sure a while back all the cj's threads were merged & then reversed as it didn't separate the separate nights, but 3 threads for 1 night, because someone can't be bothered scrolling down is a bit much. The "help with my profile" threads are numerous!

This annoys me a little bit but when people are new to the forum they may not know how it all works. I would say it’s lazy if you’re a regular poster.

There was a thing about a year ago about the numerous Cjs and after 8 posts which nearly led to them moved to the swinging club forum, it was agreed between admin and forum users to allow them to stay in the Scottish forum as long as there was one thread per event, didn’t last long as you’ve prob seen do yourself.

As most of us like to say tho... if you don’t like it scroll on by, I’m doing this a lot lately

I run a gaming forum and when you start typing a topic it searches keyword and shows similar topics cuts down on some duplicate posts but some people just like to start a fresh

If you forget day to day repeat threads , there pretty much repeated over a month to month basis anyway. How would you group then , if a similar thread was started within a day week month or year. its more hassle than its worth for Fab to care about. There happy to let them die off naturally.

If I was to rework the forum I would have the subject box tied to the search function and have results show under message box so if you typed the subject

'CJ for noobs' all cj post would show and the person could see if their topic existed before posting

It’s a great idea. Finding similar topics depends upon using the same spelling unless the search function is very clever. Eg CJ’s and CJs.

The drawback about merging threads is that they are limited to 175 posts.

Done right it should work like Google where if you miss spell the word it should suggest similar words.

I don't think it would be a good idea.

The posts would become very old and irrelevant and people would be hesitant to post new threads in case they would be shutdown by moderators.

Why would threads be shut down?

Last year as John said , it was agreed that there could only be 1 thread for any particular cj club night, the mods closed down any repeated threads. Now its just slipping back to those days again and the Mods dont bother.

Personally i dont care, i just scroll past , its not a big deal to me but we all get irate at different things , thats life.

Other vanilla forums I use have pinned threads at top. Might be useful addition here.
