Apologies if this has been done to death, but it's a question Nina and I ask ourselves quite often.
We get very little mail (sob sob!), but we do get winks from people, and we're often left wondering "And?...."
SO - winks - are they a "tap on the shoulder" saying "hows about it?" ? Is it the case that the "winker" just wants to see if we're interested, or are they just too lazy to send a message? And if someone can't be bothered writing a message, why should we? Or is that being a little too harsh?
Sooo many questions - answer them, damnit, answer them!!! lol

We take them as being just a little note of interest from the other party & a way of saying "hey guys, we like your profile- check us out". If we don't respond then they'll hopefully take that as being a polite "no thanks" without us actually having to say so.
.... can't believe you two sexy people don't get much mail tho!
rushes off to wink

I'd have to agree with you's there Mr Classy, i don't see the problem with winks. They serve a purpose on here, however i understand they can be abused.
Surely it's an opportunity to say, i have looked at your profile AND i HAVE read it. How about having a look at our/my profile. If, like you say, there's no reponse, then that can be taken as a polite "Thanks but no thanks" without having to chance offending anyone else directly.
If on the other hand both parties are happy take things a step further then i feel there would have to be some effort put into the correspondence between both parties (especially the initial sender of the wink) to prove they can hold a decent conversation and weren't being lazy by sending a wink in the first instance. Just my humble opinion |

lol ....
I think complete waste of time.. and a lazy way of saying hi..
if a profile is attractive why not say by message, ' looked at your profile, really liked it, happy for you to have a look at ours and if you like, please get in touch, if you we aren't what you are looking for, that also cool and wishing you well' ..
again only my opinion, same as gadge's.
never proactively winked, never will lol
life's too short for all this winking and winking... just spit it oot I say ..

Don't mind winks, take it that whoever winks at us has hopefully looked at our profile and liked what they've seen and send this as an invite to look at theirs. If we like we'll get in touch, if not we just delete. Must say though we hardly ever wink at anyone, much prefer to chat or send a message. L |

Never winked at anyone & rarely check whos winked at me! Pretty much a waste of time if you ask me, if someone has read my profile & likes it why don't they say hi? |

we are the same nina & d. very very little mail but tons of winks. i think its due to some people not really knowing what to say. we get lots from guys which i think are sent to suss us out a little as we dont have looking for guys on the page.
its like a wee flirt that we normally send back x |

Yep, I think winks are okay too. Just a way of saying Hi and is there any interest. I suppose if you get a wink back it is then up to you to reply with a message. Being a single male I do not get a lot of messages, so winks are a nice way of breaking the ice sometimes. To summarise no harm in them, Ian. |

We agree, A wink or a mail is a hello. We have had so many winks & mails, sometimes we reply with phone number to take things further, zero resonse, it's par for the course.

A wink is a wink on here or down the pub, i don't see anything wrong with them, infact they are a compliment to say mmmm yes please, just as i would wink at a woman in a bar or on the street its mearly a sign of i like what i'm seeing
Its a pitty alot of people don't see them as just that but then thats probably down to this being the kind of site it is with the kind of people on it, would there opinion of winks be different if it was in a bar or club on a Friday night? Rather than this site?
Wank away oops wink away |

Agree with most of the above...... a wink is a way of letting someone I am interested in knowing that I am here.
I know that people get fed up with messages from single guys, so when I wink its a wee, hello.
This lets the other person/couple decide if they are interested (hopefully) without being pushy or intrusive.
Here's winking at you all!

I'm sorry to say I use winks to say
'Hi, I'm interested but too shy to contact you'
I don't use winks, I think they're pointless.
I think people hope that you will add them as a friend. Having said that it is always nice to recieve a wink.
God I'm confused! |

Just wanted to say that winks can be useful - the scenario
You spot a nice cpl has looked at your profile at least twice
You send them a wink
They reply
We then mail them saying Hi
They respond saying hi back
and from that you can either arrange a drink, a phone call or whatever you do before the fun starts.
OK you could skip to parts but it does work so why not use it
Just ma 2 bobs worth as I'm waiting for the chat room door to be left open so I can slip in xx |
