Ever pick up the phone and instantly regret it because its Tele-sales?
Love to hear anyones tried n trusted ways of stopping them in their tracks before they've "Got you",lol
I use two,
1. "Ehh do i know you"?
2."Its a council house" (my fav).

"just register your number with a certain agency and they stop..
not sure iin the forum I can name it.
"
Telephone preference service....
Just google it for the linky...
My Bro in law (Jo's Bro, I hate him for everything else but for this hes brilliant) he will answer the phone and we can hear the following conversation:
"Really?"
"How much, wow thats cheap!"
"Wow"
"Really"
"That sounds good"
"When can you come?"
.....can go on for up to 30 minutes....
"Ok, heres my address....soon as I put the phone down ill ring the council to get them to pay the bill as its a council house..."
Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep as the other side hangs up, lol.
He basically tries to waste of much of their time as he can (when hes bored) cos they will all be on a commission OR limited to a certain length of phone call when the recipient isnt interested!

lol Steve, thats the one. Also Direct Marketing Association is also a good source of info.
I always say,... 'no thank you and please take me off your outbound calling list'.
lol lol obviously as an ex Director of Sales Contact centres .. I understand the pressure of the job from the other side.
kinda like swinging really......
some people on phone too pushy like they are in their mails on here..
some you get nice replies from, some just nasty...
never got my leg over tho.....

as my phone is beside my computer and spotify r00lz, I always tell them after they have identified themselves, "yes, thats great, im interested, gimme a min to get kid out" then put phone beside the speaker and every minute just go back on and say "your call is important to me, please hold the line" and just wait and see how long they hold on for, you will be surprised :D |

companies sell your details onto other companies who compile calling lists, anyone you have clicked over the years to receieve any kind of information from, may have done so.
sometimes the previous house occupant if the telephone number was not changed.
etc etc ......
oh the joys for working for BT..
that why I retired lol

HAHAHA I have had this and double glazing sales can be the worst: I live in a housing association flat so it dont matter how much it costs I aint ever going to pay to put it in when the housing assoc will just rip it out and put their own in.
But I have worked in a call centre and had a few really confusing calls!!!
The worst was when I was calling to say thank you for signing up to a charity.
Now this wasnt a cold call they had spoken to a fundraiser and given them their bank details and knew the call was going to happen, but still they wouldnt confirm their postcode?!?!?!!? I mean really you have given a complete stranger your bank details and you wont confirm your postcode so I can make sure you are who I want to speak to ?? WTF??
But when it comes to sales people calling me I tend to hand the phone to my 6 year old and see how long it takes them to hang up
Not normally that long lol

it might not be tele marketing folk that do this but when some one phones you and asks you to confirm your name and address and postcode i just turn it back on them and get them to tell me the info and ill confirm it since the data protection act does not allow this they hang up.
for anyone else that phones and i have the time - i just say" hold the line please and leave the phone ,after 5 mins i check to see if they are still there as some of the companies are not allowed to hang up at their end - it mucks up their stats |
