Done this route a few times , there are hotels b+b and campsites all along the way.
It’s a very busy place so book ahead if using hotels,
Best way to do it in my opinion is a campervan, there are lots of places to park up overnight.
Best advice... take your time set at least a week for this
Again my opinion the west is more interesting than the east.
As an extra go up to rosemarkie on the Black Isle .
But this route is overly busy now, the further north you go the smaller the roads get and it can get a bit congested |

"Just wondering if anyone has done or is plannning to do the NC500 route? If so, where to stay...and is there any fun on the way?"
I did it before it was called the NC500. Can't remember where we stayed but it's great. The campervan idea sounds good. Gives you lots of flexibility.
I would recommend going to Applecross. |

"Vague plans on driving it this summer (no fixed date yet). Have wanted to for years, but the recent Grand Tour episode in Scotland confirmed to me I should crack on
you and another 5000 folk"

It's a route we have done for over 15 years now always adding a bit on always taking a week or so .you always fnd a new road to explore . One you ran past the last time .
Done it in the bikes and car .
never do it in a damper van. It's an isolated are thats main income is tourism and the money that brings in. B&B the small hotels the pubs.
And the roads are not meant for campervan , as well as some of the drivers. In my opinion |

How can anyone call Berriedale Braes boring?......
Did the NC500 route every 5 weeks for over 12 years for work. Funny how you give something a snappy name and people are all over it like a rash!
Do say hi to Gordon and Dianne at Peter Burr Stores, Tongue! |

I done it in June last year in glorious weather on my bike. Stayed in a hotel in Lairg and travelled from there. Done it over 3 days really enjoyed it and met some lovely people on route, only downside was the dreaded midgies lol. |
