The majority of social events used to be in Fife when we first started .... organise yourselves even a small social not that difficult to do pick a pub and invite folk along

Fife

There is a nice venue that would possibly do it but would be a week day due to its availability.

Been to many a great social in Fife! Dunfermline, Glenrothes etc

At one point most of the socials were in Fife... well the one's you wanted to be at! Like everything else, it takes a lot of organising, and I guess the people involved eventually found it too much, and stepped back. It's a pity no one has stepped up to take over the reigns!

Some epic nights in the past!

Yeah I agree, Stirling and Dundee always had great socials, Dundee still does a couple of times a year but don't think anything is planned yet this year we missed the last one due to bad timing but will be at the next one regardless

Been to many a fife social over the years both as a couple and a single guy, miss the fact that there’s none here now, people seem to forget there is supposed to be a social side to swinging, I’d (if possible) attend a social in fife also would willingly help anyone organise one, anyone considering doing so and wants assistance then feel free to mail me to discuss options (some single guys can actually conversate haha).

I was thinking about this a few days ago as this topic is getting too repetitive.

Trying to think about ideal locations for a venue etc but if we do organise it, it'll probably be later in the year.

Start small. I have a regular mini social at a pub quiz on a Tuesday in Paisley. I’ve met many Fabbers and verified a few newbies as well.

It’s not as obvious either as using a function suite. Good luck

We have attempted this 2 or 3 times and as always is the case lots of interest but when it comes to the day everyone has an excuse so we frequently attend CJ'S in Glasgow as we know there will be genuine people there for sure x

Am sure there’s a few folk on here who will jump at the chance to make a profit from arranging a social.

Well I've messaged a few places for venues in Dunfermline.

As for profit I was thinking about putting it towards maybe a local kids football team as they always need sponsorship/funding.

Tbf that’s a great idea. My comment wasn’t in reference to you btw more about another social host who was charging people for the venue when they got it for free. That’s just not on

See I'm looking at hotels in

Dunfermline and generally you have to pay for a buffet for X amount of guests and the hall is free and they range from £5-12 depending on the platter.

Yeah most hotels will charge but pubs mostly don’t because they make their money on the bar. Your being honest and saying where the money will go so no one should have a problem with that

I think having it at a hotel also give the option to people to stay if needed as well.

Nothing worse having to try arrange accommodation near to the venue.

Arranging socials take up a lot of time so we can see why people would want to profit for time used etc but for ourselves when we do socials every penny is accounted for with venue hire (most free venues always have a catch or they aren't that nice), buffet and drink on entry. We've had some socials where we've been a few quid out of pocket, it happens now and again. One main reason we take payment/deposit is to eliminate time wasters and as I said they get the cash back via drink on entry (glass of bubbly/cocktail or a bottle of beer etc)

Best thing to do is build up a social scene in the area and go from there, many folk (ourselves included) will even travel just for a change of scenery and to meet some new people

Granted not everyone enjoys a social but not everyone is at that stage they are comfortable going to a club either so it's a nice middle ground

Best advice is make the venue accessible for most people with nearby hotels etc if it's further out

But as falcon said, quiz nights etc can be just as fun for socialising and meeting new people. A mix of different socials is always a bonus

We've done similar a few times, just takes a few people to pull out then it's a nightmare trying to fill the spaces but yeah you've got to try somewhere and take it from there

Sometimes lodges etc is more a play event obviously so harder to make sure everyone likes everyone whereas a social is easier imho as if someone isn't everyone's cup of tea then someone at the social will suit them. It's easier to mingle when no one really knows who will be there until they turn up
