It was suggested to me in a message to start a thread on what we used to do as kids that the youth of today have missed out on or you don't or rarely see them doing." (I know my opening paragraph is shit.. Bear with me.)
I was thinking, getting pulled around the scheme on your bike by either the rag and bone man (not the brit award winner btw) or the floats on gala day.
nicking milk from the door step.
Bulding rope swings from ridiculously high trees across rivers or lakes with stupidly dangerous high drops.
Playing tig on scaffolding..
Anything else.

"They can't buy cigarettes for 20p at the shop in your lunch break now. No carryouts either "
20p I remember my mum sending me to the local corner shop with 10p and a note saying I was to buy a "single" for her... I used to keep the note and go back later and get one for myself and my friends to share.. Then the shopkeeper started signing it so I couldn't.. The bastard. Hehe |

"Actually going outside.
Coming home with scabby knees, building forts in the woods, catching frogs in the ditch, getting chased by the local farmers for being in their fields."
There used to be a gooseberry Bush in the farmers field and he would chase us all the time when we went in to eat some. |

Going out and not coming back in till the street lights go on
Cyclibg everywhere with my friends, making dodgy ramps that would terrify me today and doing jumps with my bmx, and no bike helmets
Watching married with children on Thursday nights after the news with my dad looking forward to seeing Kelly bundy

Jesus, I hate the term snowflake.
Kids are a product of the society and environment they are brought up in, especially (obviously) the home environment. So don't be too much of a dick as a parent and the wee souls should be ok. |

Back to the OP, we used to get the Asda trollies, jump into them and then a gang of us would push you down the hill.
I had a particularly large friend and the weight of her, combined with the weight of the trolley and the steepness (is that a word?) of the hill, meant we had to let go mid run. Watched her hurtling towards a kerb and taking a header straight out. Totally shat myself, thought we had killed her |

The purpose of this thread never was to do what you claim it was kola.. No where did it say they were doing it wrong. It was purely to evoke memories of things we used to do that the youth of today don't.. There are a plethora of reasons why these things have died out... If you read this as an attack on the youth of today maybe they speaks more about your mindset than that of others. |

Reading all this is no wonder when my nieces (10 and 13 years old) tell their friends what they get up to with me they get called liars until there is photographic proof
Last time was in garden, gave them saws to saw up a tree branch that we had cut down and then told them to create a campfire in the fire pit then cooking bacon on it
Before that, cycling round Millport, doing bbqs (including letting them use chefs knifes to prep everything), and so much stuff
And before the social work get involved they did have some adult supervision now and again lol
Just need to see what I wil do with them rest of year |

Read your second comment in the thread kola where you said it's the same old guard trying to put kids down.. Which point was that replying too? Now re read mine. Tell me where I told anyone what they could or couldn't say... You try and draw a comparison between me and a user no longer on the site which is laughable.. |

Maybe reread the last paragraph of your post, the inference is there... And maybe answer my points...if not then I'm done. Maybe time for another cuppa. |
