Hi all you kitchen witches and nature lovers. As you know Nessarosa
and I are always trying to get "Oot and Aboot" spring and summer are
herbs and mushroom collecting day in the daytime...as well as long
distance excursions. soooo thought we would post and see if others
have same interest or would like to try.
Just an early heads up. spring is coming.....that means herb
collecting and nature walks in forest.
all are welcome to come when we post or if you post....you might see
us come to you.
////
the first herb that would be of interest is: Ransoms (do a Google
search for info and recipes)
Ramsons, Allium ursinum — also known as buckrams, wild garlic,
broad-leaved garlic, wood garlic, bear leek, and bear's garlic — is a
wild relative of chives native to Europe and Asia. The Latin name is
due to the brown bear's taste for the bulbs and its habit of digging
up the ground to get at them.
they start about mid march.....great with noodles as well as
meats....also super healing herb (high blood pressure, high
cholesterol, loosing weight)
If you have this herb near you...please let us know.
////////
Mushrooms, both Nessarosa and I are skilled mushroom collectors and
experienced with cleaning, storing and cooking. the stuff you eat buy
in ASDA tastes bland and in forest...its FREE food.
mushrooms start about end May.....
////
If you do decide to come with us (or go on your own), things you will need.
1. small rucksack
2.knife
3.basket (or cloth bags) NO PLASTIC BAGS....it will make mushrooms go bad quick
4.warm clothes/good shoes
5. something to drink....alot!!
6.something to eat....high energy and filling
Maps are good and also a mushroom/herb reference book....to take notes
and also learn differences (quick reference)
///
other things Nessarosa is into and would love to swap info about is
candles, soap and different types of oils Lavender, rosmary, chili,
pot pourri, healing herbs....
So all you Kitchen witches...be prepared.
Hugs,
Lee and Kisses from Nessarosa |

Love up round ardnamurchan, getting off the beaten track..
All the way out to Castle Tioram, up over the hills to the back of Strontian.
Or standing at the foot of the light house at ardnamurchan point with 3000 miles of open ocean between you and America.
Nice cafe there too...
Heading back up north to Orkney at easter... peace, quiet and loads of history.. |

I agree nature's larder is great and net forgotten. Why pay when its free. Fond memories of wild sorrel - tangy orange citrus taste. And nothing better walking in a pine forest just after the rain. That pine aroma is one of nature's wonders. Always intrigued by all the names of fungii but not confident to pick them lest i confuse them. |

A lot of the mushrooms are very easy....
stick to mushrooms with "Sponges" under the cap....all yellow are eatable....white is okay too (except a the ones that taste bitter...have not found here in fife)
and Never red sponge.
also "Chanterelle" (google it and look at photo) cant mistake for anythng....and nothing poisonus looks like that
Also "Orange Birch Bolet" (goodle it to) only grow under birch trees...has a orange cap and is soooooooo yummy...nessa and I collect a lot....you can clean and cut and freeze (yes it turns dark blue...and or blackish...but thats normal)
mushroom collecting is easy....just rule oot the poisonous ones and stay away from mushrooms that look similar....
and if you want....come with us one day...lol
Hugs
Lee
