Forum vs Chat
Jump to: Newest in thread
I’ve just popped over to the chat room (I could lie and say it was to see what was happening, but the truth is, it was to see if anyone attractive was doing anything interesting!).
I noticed that there are very few names I recognise from in here.
A few years back I used to spend more time in the chat, and there used to be more cross-pollination. These days, as above, I tend to drop by for an occasional perv.
I suspect this says more about the fact I tend not to use a computer for much at home these days, and the iPad/phone are only really good for dropping in and out of chat.
Apart from Peter Horsey, do we have any other crossover members? It seems to be two very diverse crowds nowadays. |

Most people in the chat room do not want to come on the forums and most openly admit it because the reputation of the Scots forum is not well received, shall we say.
There are a few from chat who do come in here to post now and then. The chat room, well Scots room, has changed a lot, most come into the chat room for general chat, have a laugh, good giggle, banter etc... and most do not look to meet when in the chat room.
Is it a clique in the room, nope, but a lot chat to each other and get on. There are certain people from the forums who pop into the chat room now and then and guess what, quite a lot stay clear of them, making the chat room seem uninteresting so they leave.
Well that's my view but I could be wrong |

Haha. I must just be ‘one to avoid’ these days!
It does always seem like one or two people chatting and that’s it, or the same few females on camera, with dozens of guys buzzing round like flies round the proverbial.
I’m obviously missing the bants! I’ll have to try to sneak in quietly one day! |

I tend to flit in and out quickly during the day so chat hasn't appealed. Even in the evening, I'm usually doing other things or watching something on TV at least. While I can get a bit lost down the forum rabbit hole and surface an hour later not knowing how the time has passed, I prefer the different topics and seeing other people's thoughts on things so the forum suits me.

I've been known to pop on of a Friday or Saturday night.. like anything else...the forum, a club, pub or whatever, it depends who else is on. Some nights it can be slow, some nights fun and occasionally you stumble across someone nice to have a wee bit of one on one fun with. |

I guess I’m just showing my age! The forums are reminiscent of the old bulletin boards, whereas the chat is more like that new fangled IRC.
I know what you mean, V about the rabbit hole. I’ve inadve been on here for hours... I dread to think what my compuserve bill will be! Thank god no-one needs to use the phone! |

Don't think I'm meaning you lol
People in the chat room don't avoid anyone. If someone starts their pish in the chat room I'd expect them to leave with their tail between their legs.
People have come into the room to try and direct or get a rise out of people in the chat room, they usually don't last long.
People don't avoid anyone in the chat room, as I said the chat rooms have changed but I didn't say for the best lol
I'd say about 6 years or before the rooms were fantastic, normally over 100 people every night on for good laughs and carry on but now not many.
Occasionally the room is full but not very often

Yeah, I remember it used to be very busy. There were even a lot of people from NE England coming into the Scottish chat because it was the place to be. I was just wonder if it’s generally died a death on all chat rooms or just that one.
It just seems to be a place where people arrive, masturbate, then leave these days*!

Like Horsey I used to frequent the Scottish Chat Room when I used my laptop more. It was full of characters, great friendly banter, folk on cam playing music or even a quiz. The “whisper fails” (pre Pvt Message) in Old Chat were hilarious & for the main everyone supported one another.
The Forums were only of interest to find out info on Socials or invites to Houseparties. However, I then started using my phone more & the Forums became the new playground with a new bunch of characters, some good/some not so good. The “chat” varied from the banal to interesting & even thought provoking (sometimes even enough to change viewpoints on certain subjects).
Like the Chat Rooms some Fabsters see the Forum as their personal social spot, their playground, the online “pub” they’ll meet others at.
Some dip in & out, others seems to be here the entire day. For me, I can drop in a lot during the duration of the latest Site Support then vanish for weeks or even months at a time. Fab isn’t my entire life or feeds my dopamine levels the way it did when it first started.
So when it becomes dull or repetitive I simply let my Site Support lapse & go find other things to do in real life that gives me satisfaction.
Whilst I’m not on my laptop as much now I’m rarely in Chat as it seems to have lost its appeal (possibly from around 2014) as did the Forums, but it’s still fun to dip in & out. Just as Fab itself is. |

I just stick to the forum and post from time to time.
I only logon using phone so the chat room function is very poor on mobiles so I don't bother. |

I hear what you’re saying Kola but most folk tend to post from their perspective, sometimes ignoring common courtesy, good manners or the viewpoints of others. I’ve even been guilty of it myself in previous times.
Any Forum/Chat Room is only as good as those participating in it. If it doesn’t satisfy me or keep my interest I move on. I find it a better philosophy than waste time on things that don’t bring me pleasure.
Access via portable devices has also influenced where I spend my time, & I’m sure plays it’s part on others choosing between Forums/Chat/On or Offline time.
I’m sure there are other factors too but those are the ones that I find apply to me personally. |

Well Kola, as we’ve both been on Fab for many years you know the pitfalls.
For me I find the best way of making sure Fab remains fun is to completely ignore the ones who wish to detract from other folks pleasurable experience of Fab & focus on the ones that will lift my day into something a bit more special. That advice should serve Newbies to Fab just as well as those of us around a bit longer, irrespective of which part of Fab they frequent more.
Some will sit in the New Pics section Fabbing all the latest additions, some will wander into Cam Rooms & get their fun there, others the Forums.
If folk get their kicks out of being bitchy, banal, rude, gravitate towards things you might disagree on that’s up to them. You can’t change their personality, what feeds their egos or their little compulsive gene that makes them the way they are.
As for the rise of Social Media making us less sociable & more forthright, outspoken & in some cases downright anti-social - the truth of the matter is that their opinion only matters if you let it matter. As their opinion ultimately doesn’t matter (no matter how much we might think of it as interesting, witty, bitchy, informative, whatever) it’s just dross on a screen that’s unlikely to drastically change the world. The only thing that does change are the “characters”. A bit like the actors in a soap. The soap goes on, the actors might change, but it’s only a form of entertainment.
When anything in life stops giving you pleasure then stop.
Newbies will learn to pick their own battles, or if they have sense avoid those that seem like their online persona (phone voice) are out to intimidate.
Don’t feed the trolls & they’ll go look for their prey elsewhere & pick on those less equipped to deal with bad behaviour. That applies whether it’s Chat, Forum or another part of Fab. Likewise I approach all Social Media with a similar outlook.
Most of us are here to ultimately find folk we can share fun in the sack with. Anything more is a bonus.

Thanks.
I should point out that even my approach on Fab has altered over the years as social media grew to take hold of more folks choice of entertainment.
Search back into Fab History & you’ll find I’ve had my share of ego stroking posts, banal banter, off coloured humour, jibes at others (some intentional, other unintentional) etc. So I’ve been there, done it, got the t-shirt, & ripped it up to use as dusters.
The “characters” & “personas” are no different from old Fab. The actors have changed though over the last decade.
There’s always a Norm propping the bar up who lives here permanently, there’s the resident wannabe pantomime villains be they Katy Hopkins type biatches or Simon Cowelk type barstewards, & the majority who just want a positive experience, a meet, or looking for something new & exciting.
I just think the world is trying to move on from allowing social media being an outlet for folk throwing tantrums, being obnoxious to others, or screaming because they crave attention. By not feeding the negativity we force that change in them to adapt their bad behaviour for something more positive.
The world is fkd up enough without encouraging the brats to leverage control away from the rest of us. Don’t let them.
If that’s common sense then it’s all good with me.
That all said... this post is probably as unlikely to stop brats being brats. Only brats can change their behaviour. The post will likely disappear amongst many more & the “sensible” words are only words on someone’s screen. It’s up to them how they interpret, make use or ignore them.
Not my monkey. Not my circus.
Happy Fabbing everyone |

I suspect this says more about the fact I tend not to use a computer for much at home these days, and the iPad/phone are only really good for dropping in and out of chat.
Apart from Peter Horsey, do we have any other crossover members? It seems to be two very diverse crowds nowadays. "
very rarely use chat or the forums to be honest we find them far to clique. People wont like the word clique but sorry our opinion. get the pop corn now lol |

"I’ve just popped over to the chat room (I could lie and say it was to see what was happening, but the truth is, it was to see if anyone attractive was doing anything interesting!).

Ah... the anti-clique clique! It’s about time you lot showed up!
Only kidding. I know what you mean. It does seem a bit off putting at times. I’ve been away for a while and I have noticed it’s a little less cliquey in here just now.
That may only be temporary, and I’ve jinxed it, but it seems to have the right balance of good-natured and odd-ball!
...And kit kats, Albie, don’t worry.
