"Explain to me why guys use the term Gym fit please ? What does a gym fit person look like?
What is the definition of Gym fit?"
Not sure what gym fit means versus just fit.
Is gym fit those guys who take steroids and have amazing muscle definition ?
Fit is maybe someone who can go out and run for an hour but won’t be entering mr/miss universe? |

"Gym fit guys are guys who have selfie pics in the gym mirrors usually wearing daft fingerless gloves with weights in the background on their profiles.
"
See a lot of those profiles, do they not realise that what's between the ears is more important to the vast majority of women? |

It's a bit of a misconception and effectively a way to describe someone's physical appearance rather than their actual strength and fitness.
It doesn't mean they can deadlift 180kg.
It doesn't mean they can do 10 strict wide arm pull ups.
It doesn't mean they can row 5k in a respectable time.
It doesn't mean they can run 10k in a respectable time.
It means they go to the gym to work specific muscle groups often in front of a mirror, usually take supplements (some not legal) and they are very meticulous and strict (and boring) with their diet. It is a big lifestyle commitment though. |

i’de say gym fit is used to describe someone’s physical appearance as well as their health and fitness. they know what they are doing in the gym and have proven results to show for it. they can lift relatively well in proportion to their body weight and demonstrate a good level of cardiovascular activity. |

Don't think you can say that at all. Doesn't have to involve any cardiovascular at all actually. Hence the "misconception".

Of course it doesn't have to involve cardio, you said yourself it's a physical appearance. Anyone can have it if they lift weights and target specific muscle groups and get their body fat percentage down as everyone has the same muscles as their core. And as I'm sure you know the key to body fat is actually diet.
That's science. Cardio does not have to come into it. It may do with some but it doesn't have to and in the case of most guys it probably doesn't. |

In addition, in the case of most guys it doesn't actually involve "lifting" properly either. Only a tiny amount of "gym fit" guys can do proper Olympic lifts such as the snatch, hang cleans etc. Most "lifting" is often done on a machine, which is not a lift but a specific closed chain muscle targeting device. |

physical appearance as well as health and fitness. i’m a firm believer in cardio to keep healthy and fit, along with weight training for maximum results, bearing in mind what your goals are. diet is of course key. |

I'm type 2 diabetes and in the past 4 years between the gym, pool, taking up cycling and completelychanging my eating habits I've shed 9 stone. It's a lifestyle for me now and it's transformed my life. I'm definitely fit but I've health issues. Still got about 4 stone to reach my goal , I'll never look "gym fit" but that's never been my aim ,I just wanted to give myself the best possible life. Thanks for the input guys, Michael

Well done dude. You deserve all the credit in the world. You did something radical and very proactive about it. You took responsibility for your own health and wellbeing and what you've achieved so far is fantastic. As you've said it's a lifestyle, stick at it, you'll get there, you seem to have the motivation and strength to do it. |

Thanks for that, every positivite comment increases the motivation.. remember it like yesterday, woke up one morning and my first thought was " I'm changing my life from now " I have , I knew I would do it and I'm now helping others break down the psychological barrier that tells them they're beyond help. It was like an epiphany for want of a better word and I had one in 2003 when I threw my cigarettes away and knew I'd never look back. It was so easy I got 6 weeks of counselling for the guilt. |

That's my thoughts on it too. When I see the term 'gym fit' on a profile, I tend to imagine they just want to shout "look at me, aren't I gorgeous?" |

You speak shit. I class myself as gym fit and can do everything and more that you have in your comment. Everyone has different goals in a gym. Does that mean some are gym fit and some not due to style of training? Is the 9 stone gymnast not gym fit but the 20stone body builder is? |

the term gym fit to me and others is someone who is mearly intrested in the asthetics "the look".
I have a body type that with little effort i can look athletic while wheeze and gasp walking to asda (ok thats a stretch im generally fine) |

It's not 100% true. You're right that some people are lucky enough to get super shape easier that others but it still cost them a lot of work. Genetics like U said is just common excuse

Gym fit means someone is fit enough to make their way to their local gym and fill in a membership form.
I suppose the term gym fit in Scotland and gym fit in Russia may have slightly different definitions though! |
