I need to tread carefully with this thread as to not offend anyone but my view as to what is defined as 'Curvy' is a hour glass figure along the style of a Marilyn Monroe or Jayne Mansfield...
I have seen females describe themselves as curvy when I see them more as Ample or Voluptuous but certainly not curvy... Am I missing out on something here and got this all wrong ? |

Can have a different meaning to different people. I just think its a nice way to describe a body shape (that's why I have it on my profile).
I wouldn't rely on it to give me an idea of how someone looks, photos are the only way to do that on here. |

If I was to describe your body type I would say athletic or at the very least average, in my eyes you are certainly not curvy  |

Id second athletic. Ffs theres even a pair of trainers in one piccy  curvy is a bit more rounded in my eyes...
Going by an average height of say 5ft 6 to 5ft 8 ish
Id say size 12 is fairly average, 14-16 is voluptous, 16-18 is curvy... any more is ample.
Just my opinion and for the record i like the curvy ladies  |

I'm a size 18 and bigger in some shops..I think curvy means curves lol big ass wee waist n big boobs...curves is what I also love in a lady..do think ample means bigger bigger..more than a few handful re boobs tummy etc ...lol some sexy plus sizes on here x  |

I'm a size 20 with all the wobbly bits, so I describe myself as a large woman. State that on the profile more than once, just to make guys aware of this.
Not the first time I've had a slim/athletic guy message for a meet, but all his verifications are slim woman, so clearly he hasn't read my profile or seen my pics to know I'm prob not what he's looking for. |

I hold all my weight in my middle so while I'm not plus size I'm still not slim

Especially when some profiles don't really have clear pictures?
I class myself as curvy as I'm certainly not slim or athletic but always said avarage but have put a wee bit of weight on (Back to the gym I go! ) so I'm going with curvy
But..have seen way bigger and way smaller also use curvy so as I 1st said..

I'd have said curvy is more an hourglass figure. I don't have much of a waist at all though so I should probably put myself as ample. Curvy is a bit of a euphemism these days though. 'chubby average' maybe?

Of course you are right bluebell in what you said and if the person is happy within themselves then that's what matters but I have to say I have seen a couple of pics where the females are imo a size 18-20 or even bigger but have curvy in their profile, one even had average build.
It's not for me to say they don't see themselves as others do but to be honest with themselves might help. This is in no way being disrespectful to these ladies but guys get a hammering on here for lying about their age or if they are with someone but cheating behind their back and he's using a singles account. |

Oh boy am getting it in the neck now from angry females, calm down it's only my opinion ladies...jeezo, as for if I don't find a curvier female unattractive to just bypass her how do you know I do or don't? FYI I like a female for her personality and banter not her size. |

I (Mrs) am a size 16 but have a tummy so do not class myself as curvy.
I think curvy is more your kelly brook type of person who is toned, small waist and larger hips and bust.
This will be unpopular but grossly overweight is not curvy. It’s a genuine pet peeve of mine when I see some of the descriptors on here. Goes for men as well who have beer belly’s and class themselves as athletic.
As said above it’s up to the individual on what they see themselves as and I would not go on a descriptor alone in deciding if the person was my type or not.
I personally feel people who choose a more flattering body term are being dishonest

I have curvy on mine, but going on the comments on here I should be ample or large  an hourglass figure goes by your measurements being in proportion, so you could be a size 20 and be hourglass, so by what is said on here, you’d be curvy... there was the same debate about male profiles, about what athletic describes, no one one will ever agree on this subject |

Hhmm... I don't think there's enough of me to be ample but I'm more than curvy. Definitely no toned stomach here  Curvy is a more palatable term though and ample tends to put people off. Like curvy is more sexy? I don't know... I'd probably feel a bit shit about myself putting ample or large even though they're probably more honest

I would agree with your thinking but the choices on here aren't great I would see ample as having big boobs etc
I'm a size 14 I had to put average as I'm not curvy I have small boobs but I'm not large just a little overweight and everyone will have a different opinion |

Curvy is often used as a euphemism for fat. Like bbw. But does it really matter what physique option someone has selected on their profile? I mean, that’s like making a forum post about someone selecting 6ft on their profile but they’re actually 5ft 10. Or someone selecting social drinker, but really they’re pissed every weekend. |

A curvy woman is not necessarily a plus-size woman. The designation of curvy has to do with body measurement and the differential between the size of the waist and hips. Curvy refers to a waist-hip differential of .75. ... A hip size of 46 inches and a waist size of 34.5 inches or less is also considered curvy.

I've always understood curvy to mean you have curves.
When you google it gives hour glass as an example.
I think it can be hard to decide what to call your body shape as people can see themselves differently to what others see them as.

Everyones interpretation is going to be different. Just like the whole beauty is in the eye of the beholder thing.
Just because our own ideas of what these are aren't the same as someone else's doesn't mean we're wrong.
Me, I'm overweight with wobbly bits in all the wrong places (I'd say I'm fat) but others don't see me like that because my height helps me hide it a bit better.

To me curvy means your body shape is some curves and less straight lines, mostly straight lines which is slim and when you’ve more curves than straight lines then you start going into ample
If your standing straight Boobs hit the wall before your belly and your ass hits before your back your curvy if they hit same time
Slim/ample you can tell between the two and if the back and the belly hit before the boobs and the bum then I’d say bbw

I have curves on top of rolls on top of more curves so I chose large I think I was right to it gives people a fair warning of my body
I dislike people that say they are slim/ athletic when it turns out they are chubby just be honest! |

This is a very personal thing abd some guys like it others don’t though why they feel the need to message me and tell that I don’t know!

One of those terms that has different meaning for each person!
I say on my profile. Curvy because I am not an iron board. Simple. One takes from that what he/she wants.
I have curves at the wrong places! you can say fat, but... that doesn't stop me for running a 5k in a good time (when am 100%).
In Europe I am fat... in West Africa, am average... in the Caribbean, am skinny
