"Really fancy going and wondered if anyone has been. Wondered also if its safe enough for a single female to go alone?."
Yes was there a couple of years ago in Jan. fabulous place to visit. Felt perfectly safe. I guess like any big city to use common sense and you’ll be absolutely fine! Good food and drink, and value for money. |

"We're heading there in the summer. Thinking of getting the train to Prague as well and visiting both.
That sounds like a good idea. How long does it take by train to get to Prague?"
6 and a half hours |

"Will keep that in mind although we only going Mon to Fri. Think Prague would be another holiday."
If you've not been to Prague ..
It's really easy to get to from the airport and easy to get around the city , either by foot or public transport |

Lived and worked in the city a few years ago.
Loved it to bits and never felt safer.
I was encouraged by my colleagues to mix in with the locals and don’t spend money as at the time the average local was earning around 1/10 of what I was.
Sight seeing in either Buda or Pest is well worth the visit especially in Buda with the Citadel, Castle, St Stephens Cathedral and the Bastion with views across the Danube are brilliant

Only advice I can give you is double check your Hungarian banknotes you hand over or recieve in change as the zeros are very close together and at a quick glance a 1000 Forints can easily be mistaken for 10000 Forints, especially keep a watch with the drivers
On the whole, a great city and one I love walking around. Take a hike up Gellert Hill and the views of the bridges and parliament are breathtaking. Don’t forget to head onto Margeziget Island, great wee place and has one of the best musical fountains I’ve came across
There’s also a hotel called the Hotel Swing....

Wonderful place to visit. Was there back in October. Loads to see and do. Great food and not too expensive. Enjoy when you go. Loads of nice appartments to stay in rather than hotel gives a bit more freedom. |

The wife is from Budapest. Born and raised. We keep property there and spend a lot of time in the city and surrounding areas.
So I guess we are pretty knowledgable. Would recommend you seek out the ruin bars.
There are some awesome swimming pools and spas. The one at the Gelert is wildly decadent being designed like a roman temple. Weather allowing Szechenyi is an brilliant open air pool.
Great nightclubs, beautiful architecture.
If it wasnt for the totally bloody aweful language which is impossible to learn the city is damn near perfect. |

We went there last April and was really impressed by the city. We felt safe walking around and found plenty of welcoming bars. Grozny Street (I think) was a great place and plenty of bars and restaurants
Have a good trip you’ll enjoy the city
