I believe that people who don't like sci-fi are lacking in imagination, as the good stuff tends to be allegorical, and looks at our own world, and the human condition in a way that a straight drama can seem preachy. |

for the older sci-fi films you look at them and see if they still have an effect on you today and how the younger generation think of them.
'Alien' is the bomb, does everything it says on the tin, scary as shit. The same for 'Aliens', not "where will it come from" this time they are everywhere, this time is war.
'Fifth Element' just fantastic rollercoaster film, good giggles and amazing cast and models and wardrobe designs.
'Bladerunner, the final cut', wow, atmospheric and watching Rutger Hauer talk to Harrison ford just before he dies, epic
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."
'Serenity' just a class sci-fi film
All above and more I could watch and watch time and time again.
Some of the films listed I love, Even the Star Trek ones with Chris pine

"Valerian for the MR
Jupiter Ascending for me, it really did get a bad rep, I thought it was awesome though.."
Agreed
Those are two films I have watched quite a few times.
Looper and Inception, both kinda sci-fi are films I enjoyed |

Thanks for the tip....I’ll make a point of watching Avatar then (although I’ll expect compensation from you if it’s just a movie about big Smurfs running about a forest) |

Too much of a geek to choose. Many of the films already mentions are in my top 10.
No one I think has mentioned the remake of Battlestar Galactica however (counts as a movie choice as they made a few films off the back of it )
Great series/movies.
Also a brown coat. Due a rewatch of that. |

"The Abyss (directors cut).
Superb drama and love the way it puts us in our place and reminds us of our environmental responsibilities.
I prefer the sprecial edition"
Oh hell yeah, can’t watch the short version anymore . Same with ALL the alien films, how the hell can they scratch all that footage. |

Idiocracy. It's more of a comedy/ sci-fi with the main theme being that as technology becomes more advanced the human race becomes less and less intelligent. The frightening thing is that it was made like 15 years ago but so many of the predictions are spot on.

Ever seen the Stargate wormhole Xtreme ep?
End bit says the above quite eloquently. |

We save our annual rewatch for Christmas. Then I end up falling down old sci-fi series rabbitholes. |

for superhero movies, I prefer 'Watchmen' to any other though...Dr Manhattan is just the best(there could be rumours of him crossing over to another universe (think marvel or DC lol), it kinda keeps in line with his godlikeness. |

"Bladerunner
To be fair any Philip K Dick film is fantastic sci-fi.
Great author. Bladerunner is very different from the book though"
True, minority report and scanner darkly were abit closer to the source but books are quite off kilter. I did like the short stories they adapted though. |

Due to being reminded of that quote on here I have watched the film 3 times in the past week ffs Just as good each time I watch it
"We'd better get back, 'cause it'll be dark soon, and they mostly come at night... mostly." Pure class
