First car I bought was a 1.6 Ford Capri then upgraded to the 2.8i

Over a grand to insure at the time can only imagine what a similar spec would be today for an 17 yo

Pals were buying cortinas and XR3i’s but just took to the Capri from the off.

There is a gorgeous Mk 1 cortina not far from me. He’s also got one of the last Capri 2.8 Ghia. But his most prized car is an American convertible ingorgoues white and light blue. Haven’t a clue what it is but it’s from the 50s I think. He keeps it very well hidden from view for obvious reasons.

Used to hate when a cosworth pulled up along side me at lights. always felt obliged to try burn him off but usually the cornering was the Capri downfall so often left eating his dust

Older cars have more character than the new ones.

On my way to work I walk past a house, the owner has a Morris Minor in the drive way.

It's not my cup of tea, but makes me smile as he certainly keeps it clean and tidy

A friend had a Mk 5 cortina. It was a 1.6 but someone stuck the 2L Lotus engine in it - without changing the gearbox. Needless to say it used to make some awesome whining sounds....until he left the gearbox all over the road after about 9 months

But it was such fun to drive. You could spin it in a heartbeat

They were reasonably cheap and easy to work on yourself before all the computerised crap started getting fitted . Most tv shows used cortina’s , granada’s And capri’s unless it was a jag .

Car not starting ? Take off distributer cap clean out condensation spray with wd40 job done all good again .

It’s really good seeing someone looking after these 60’s/70’s cars. Really like seeing these cars getting driven around.

Must be hard to get parts though (Unless there’s a specialty group/collectors).

Had a few classics over the years like 4x4 Sierra cosworth, opal mantas, ford capris, cavalier sri but at the moment I've settled with a 22 year old 8 seater vw caravelle & a 15 year old vw T4

Still searching for another project but hands full with both of them at the moment

I’ve got a car that’s turned into a “project”

Since I got it in 2005, Renault Clio Mk2

Had sunroof resealed, the WHOLE underneath of the vehicle “undersealed”

Few wee other things I’ve had to hold off

it was in Arbroath and lotus colours but couldnt say if it was a 4 door or not, only got a couple of seconds look at it, would love to see it parked up and have a right proper look all over it

True. Canny whack most of the late 70’s “old skool” motors. (Even the TV programme “the professionals” used most of these)

Yea, but when you see a car from 60’s/70’s still in good condition, then hats off to that person for looking after/maintaining a car to that standard

Passed a brown mk1 escort in Rosyth a few days ago, was stunning. Love old cars and always (until the tax man came knocking) had yanks for last 20 years. Love ‘em.

If I could find an old 120A Datsun I’d be a happy man.

My very first car was a Mk 1 Lotus Cortina. Amazing car, like all Mk1 Cortinas I did not think it looked particularly brilliant. Because of the tweaking by Lotus however it was bloody fast of the mark. Jim
