There is the debate was The Jam really a mod band.
Anyway in no particular order and it really could be a top 500
Do I love you :Frank Wilson
International Jet Set: The Specials
All or Nothing: Small Faces
Dave Brubeck Quartet: Take Five
Secret Affair:So Cool
But then again I could list 500 no The Beat, Yarbirds, Who, Action, Chords, Merton Parkas Ska, Blue beat or Spencer Davis Group.

Think you will find The Jam came in on the back of the New Wave movement which precededed the Mod revival and was the softer side of the punk movement, also including bands like The Rezillos Blonde and Squeeze.
In the City was actually seen as a punk album not a mod album. Weller describes the freshness and individuality of the punk movement as one of his biggest influences.
The label Modfather want actually stuck to Weller until the 90s.
Plenty of Mods would class the The Jam as a mod band through some of their work however they also had just as both a following of only Jam fans who for the most part listened to all of their work and not just the pieces that slotted in with the Mod movement of the time.
Setting Sons, Sound Effects and All Mod Cons are heavily influenced by 60s mod band The Kinks Small Faces and soul however once you move to The Gift you will find Wellers influence move more towards an afro Caribbean sound, hence the heavy use of can horn section, not seen before in any of their work to that extent.

The Jam dressed like mods and played Punk... but got accepted by the revival of the mod thing in the 80s. Purple Hearts and Secret Affair were mod...The Chords had that Punk thing.... |

My opinion is there is no such thing as mod music amd a mod band would be a band where all members are mods ie you dont get mod music you get music mods like.
The jam were mods amd mods locdd the music. |
