Somewhere nearby

I lived just over the Tay Bridge for a couple of years, and used to go into Dundee a lot.

I really liked Dundee, and there is a huge amount of regeneration going on, especially down at the Waterfront with the V&A, and other bits and bobs. I’d happily move back down that way given the chance...!

Also despite the royal fuck with NHS Tayside and the endowment money, Ninewells is a fabulous hospital (in my eyes any way. Saved my daughters life after a very traumatic birth) and they are at the forefront of a lot of medical innovation and research.

We love Dundee!

So much regeneration going on and fabulous bars and restaurants. The medical research being carried out here is amazing and we are at the forefront of the gaming and tech industries. And did I mention the fabulous views across the Tay.

Have lived and travelled to quite a few places around the world and I've never met nicer people than Dundonians.

Come visit Dundee, and while you're here why not come to the social on the 12th May!

Agree with the above, sick to death of people referring to us as Scumdee. Just fucking rude.

The waterfront regeneration is bringing a lot of interest, and we're finally getting some bands realising that there is something between Glasgow/Edinburgh and Aberdeen!

Spent several years there in late 80s and still regularly return.

Big changes have always been promised and at last they appear to be happening.

"...there is a huge amount of regeneration going on, especially down at the Waterfront..."
I keep hearing this about Dundee. A few years ago, my then-girlfriend took me there for a party one weekend. Kept telling me I was wrong about Dundee. Except, she then managed to only take me to bits that were still desperately need of regeneration.

.

"...sick to death of people referring to us as Scumdee. Just fucking rude."
Ach, that’s just a bit of inter-city persiflage. Look at my home city; it’s hardly at the cutting edge of 21st century urban homomorphosis.

I’m really excited about the V&A opening. I still have to go to Ninewells for outpatient appts and it’s fascinating driving along through the town and along the front and seeing how different it looks each time. Huge changes that I think are going to be great for the city.

I live at the east side of dundee and work at the west end, get to drive past the new v&a and slessor gardens etc. Makes a huge difference to the front now the old olympia, casino and hotel are away. Looks so much better!

I love Dundee. I'm only 10 minutes away and the family are there. My sons and grandchildren are all Dundonians. The Waterfront regeneration is looking amazing and for shopping and leisure Dundee has a lot to offer indeed. I've always found it warm and friendly.

I'll reserve my judgement on Ninewells as a centre of excellence from personal experience. The nursing staff are however, exemplary.

Scale of buildings are going to surprise a lot of people

5 or 6 storeys built round the v&a which will block any view of Tay from union street etc

Plus it'll take up to a further 6 years or so to complete

You see, that sounds more like Aberdeen; regeneration without consideration.

.

Councils let companies ‘develop’ regardless of the consequence. Office space built without real evidence that it can be filled. (It can’t.) Retail space built without consideration for whether all existing retail space is sustainable. (It isn’t.)

It's all very positive for the city, and is still developing. You or I don't know what the end results will end up being. So far so good, when the V and A opens that will also have an impact on the percentage. It's all an on going situation that will improve as more visitors are drawn to the city. G

Yeah, places like the Perth Road, Barnhill, Downfield and the Ferry look really cheap and run down

What a load of nonsense.

All cities have areas that are less affluent than others, Dundee isn't any worse than any other city.

The new waterfront and VA development looks good and I hope it pays off, I for one will be paying it a visit when complete. I am sure there are bad areas in Dundee like any other major city, but the plans to boost the tourism in the city look good.

Avoid the following areas to stay, lochee, hilltown, stobswell, linlathan, mid craigie, charleston. The rest are pretty decent. In fairness its like every town & city. Dundees fine to visit and as a dundonian i have no intention of moving back to stay. Im a proud dundonian & wouldnt swap my dialect for any other in scotland. There should be a sign at all entrances to dundee. Welcome to the city oh the peh

Just think geographically in terms of where the universities are.

Students don't like to walk far and hate to spend beer money on buses!

I have to admit I was one of those who called Dundee scumdee but having been that way a few months ago I have to admit it was unjustified

Aberdeen needs to take a look at what’s happening down the coast and keep up. Dundee has a totally new way of life and it’s northern cousin is trailing miles behind

Ninewells saved my life and my very preemie son a few years ago so I will always have a soft spot for the staff there - even though my son is a bit miffed he’s not an aberdonian lol

All going well I will enjoy the social in a few weeks - never been out in Dundee and have to say I’m really looking forward to it xx
