To be fair the problems in your country run much deeper than anything that can be attributed to the old firm!! Easy to generalise as another poster has already said. |

I love how people pigeonhole all the sectarian problems with just two sets of fans of football teams. The problem runs deep in this country. I think most will have seen the video of Scotland rugby fans in Italy a couple of weeks ago and only last week letters were sent out to politicians and groups for a day of attacking catholics. Much like the letters sent in England for attacking Muslims this was debated in holyrood despite no attack a Muslim letters being sent out in Scotland but the attack a catholic letters that were sent out weren’t WHY. I find this odd and for anyone who cares about these things I’m not religious I’m an out n out Aethiest. And I agree old firm posts never end well |

Biggest dogging site in Scotland that day.
11 guys getting pumped in a field with 50,000 watching
And sadly that's coming from a rather pessimistic Rangers fan |

You're right, it's not exclusively an Old Firm problem, but, you'll be hard pushed to find a large groups of other Scots congregating in their thousands to champion and sing about it for 42 weeks of the year.

You need to catch a grip mate. The ref in the last game teaches religious education in a RC high school in Lanarkshire. I must have missed your post on that.
2 (big) teams in Glasgow but only one team seems to dominate every waking hour of some people lives.
Once again a fantastic threat for blocking the idiots. They know exactly who they are.

Not really a huge fan of football and just through friendship i found myself following the hoops on game days, not religious in any manner in my adult life. Have travelled to the green isle on many occasion and enjoy the culture, kinship and craic, i find the sectarian relation to the 'old firm' tiring and childish. Yes the world is bias in many ways but getting violent or aggressive toward anyone because of sport is just childish |

If someone is happy to sit in amongst thousands of fans who sing songs glorifying the IRA or killing Catholics, then you're part of the problem.
To simply wave your hands and say "It's not me, it's not me" isn't an acceptable opt out.
Everyone is turning a deaf ear to it, always have done. From the club owners, to law makers, to law enforcers.
The entire country is somewhat accountable for just allowing it.

If I attend a fixture involving either of those teams, hear the sectarian singing and don't complain about it, then yes. That's rather obvious, isn't it.
If I witnessed a crime on the street and just ignored it, that would be wrong.
This is the same thing. It's breaking the law. |

"And rugby fans singing flower of Scotland?
That's sectarian also? "
It's an outdated embarrassment of a national anthem.
Stinks of parochialism and should have been dropped decades ago.
Even God Save The Queen is a more acceptable anthem.

So fiddling overtime is ok though ?
It’s not everyone’s fault that this shit happens . It’s a sad part of life . Famine in other parts of the world people with no water that’s not our fault tyrannical leaders murdering their own people .
No we shouldn’t accept sectarian singing and violence the true supporters should stand up and sing louder than them and drown them out so they can’t be heard .
If you see something happening film it with a phone and report it later don’t put yourself at risk from any so called fan or criminal . |

I'm Northern Irish... when I moved to Glasgow I was surprised by how deeply embedded sectarianism is here in some people's lives.
I see people at work, grown men, family men, full of vitriol. They call out bigotry from the other side but fail to recognise their own.
They have a need to know what side of the religious divide I am from so they know if I am a friend or foe, but all justified under the cloak of banter.
I had hoped I had left all that behind after 22 years growing up in Northern Ireland but sadly not.
My personal view is if you're a cunt, you're a cunt, regardless of the colour of your football shirt.

Essentially, you're all a little bit narked because you support to clubs who are complicate in tolerating this nonsense.
It's okay, I understand that, there isn't much one single person can do when you have thousands of people singing sectarian songs in your presence.
Just please, don't try and tell me how wonderful these two clubs and their supporters are, because everyone else in the country knows what they are. And it's why they will never be welcome anywhere outwith their own incompetent country's govenrnance.

"Both sets of supporters and clubs are a stain on our country, so it'll just be some sort of victory if they can behave themselves. " some supporters neither club the clubs are just buisnesses out to make a profit.
Their are some unsavory characters at both clubs but the main problems are to do with what folk deem supporters when they are nothing more than bigoted drama merchants holding onto the coat-tails of a ludicrous perspective. |

Weirdly how it's the armchair supporters or non football supporters that say this and not actual folk that go pay their money to watch football?
Yes they sing their songs and me personally who has been to countless old firm games and come from a mixed religion family I couldn't care less if someone a 90 min bigot it's the idiots that carry it on in outside life that's the problem.
And just to throw a curve ball in all my old firm experience the only nasty experience I received was away to Kilmarnock!! |

You fucking serious lol !
Verse 6 can only be attained by those capable from getting past the first 5 verses first.
It’s still very much part of the lyrics the same as folk only know a few lines from their fav tune.

I was always of the understanding that
the chain attached to the unicorn isn't fixed to anything. It's simply there to let you know the unicorn is supporting the Scots because he wants to and not because he is being forced

It definitely isn't and it wasn't part of the original. Here's info from wiki on the verse:
"Historic alternative verses
Around 1745, anti-Jacobite sentiment was captured in a verse appended to the song, with a prayer for the success of Field Marshal George Wade's army then assembling at Newcastle. These words attained some short-term use, although they did not appear in the published version in the October 1745 Gentleman's Magazine. This verse was first documented as an occasional addition to the original anthem by Richard Clark in 1822,[36] and was also mentioned in a later article on the song, published by the Gentleman's Magazine in October 1836. Therein, it is presented as an "additional verse... though being of temporary application only... stored in the memory of an old friend... who was born in the very year 1745, and was thus the associate of those who heard it first sung", the lyrics given being:
Lord, grant that Marshal Wade,
May by thy mighty aid,
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
and like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush,
God save the King."
ButI know some like to revel in victimhood though. |

'As we announced on Feb 2011, we have a standalone strategy that does not rely on any other club.
That strategy has been successful, we do not need to talk about any other club, we focus on our own club.
These are the facts:-
•Rangers football club went into administration on March 2011 , then entered liquidation on November 2012.
•Sevco Scotland limited, later renamed The Rangers football club limited, applied to be and later became a member of the Scottish fa and the Scottish football league on June 2012.
•In the Scottish fa and spfl competitions, there is a team called Rangers who play at Ibrox, train at Murray park and has the same crest, strip and supporters as before.
•We need to play whoever we are asked to play in those competitions.
As a club, we stopped referring to the old firm some time ago, as we did not think the term was relevant'
Old firm is basically a lazy way for rival fans and others who can't think for themselves to conveniently pronounce that 'one's as bad as the other' |

"I'm Northern Irish... when I moved to Glasgow I was surprised by how deeply embedded sectarianism is here in some people's lives.

Football fans in general throughout the world hate their rivals.
Most fans don't know and haven't met the people they profess to hate.
Some people just hate other clubs or institutions in general.
Yes this can be irrational.
But as human beings we all have irrational thoughts about different things.
Who knows some people on Fab might even be irrational from time to time.
Having attended football all over the world, and over 100 Celtic vs Rangers derby games, for football fans the world over, the derby match particularly when its two big teams in the one city is amazing.
Whether its Celtic vs Rangers, Lazio vs Roma or Inter vs AC Milan the passion is as intense, and probably the irrationality as well.
Football brings huge enjoyment to hundreds of thousands of people in Scotland, and we are either top or near the top of football attendances per head of population in Europe.
In life none of us are perfect, so football fans the world over, are just
a snapshot of the general population of any country.

Please do not tar every e with the same brush!
I and other genuine old firm fans that actually go to the games know how to behave ourselves
It's the no Mark bigots that sit in the comfort of the armchairs getting pissed watching it on tv that are the morons."
I agree totally, there are half-wits throughout every sport, hobby and really all walks of life...genuine football supporters (Auld firm or not) should not be tarnished with the same brush. |

Your absolutely right I couldn’t couldn’t give a F**K .
When it comes to football charity what more could be charitable then Celtic asking the SFA if it would be ok to start the semi final with nine players to even things up |

"Even God Save The Queen is a more acceptable anthem.
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring
May he sedition hush
And like a torrent rush
Rebellious Scots to crush
That verse hasn't been in the national anthem for years.
You fucking serious lol !
Verse 6 can only be attained by those capable from getting past the first 5 verses first.
It’s still very much part of the lyrics the same as folk only know a few lines from their fav tune.
Ask yourself why the unicorn has a chain around it on coins or coat of arms.

Football has never been a sport for years, I tightly run business yes, but never a sport, sadly the fans do not understand this.
.
they will still all rush out and purchase the new home and away kits though, spend their well earned pay or benefits,
some need something in life to be part off, something to grasp too. |

When someone resorts to personal insults they have lost the argument. Typical britnat response though.
No back up needed when a fact is stated that the GSTQ lyrics include crushing the Scots |

"'As we announced on Feb 2011, we have a standalone strategy that does not rely on any other club.
Old firm is basically a lazy way for rival fans and others who can't think for themselves to conveniently pronounce that 'one's as bad as the other'
They are as bad as one another correct .
They are still the old firm in newspapers , radio and television .
I hope you enjoy your team playing as others will enjoy theirs . "
As I said, just laziness.
Media calls two different companies that name for commercial reasons, cos it sells.
Football fans support one club, not two and wouldn't in anyway want to be associated with another.
Fans of a club riot, sing sectarian songs? Just blame the two cos we're told that's the way it is. |

"So you accept your club died and are no longer most successful glasgows team? "
It takes a special kind of idiot to come on a swinging site, no doubt, in a bid to attract others and openly post your cry wank fantasy.
The major problem is your fantasy never became reality. It only exists in the eyes of the deluded.
Instead you keep telling yourself Ranjurs are deid over and over again.
As Sevco (aka deid Ranjurs) progressed back through the leagues the 40,000 who abandoned their club started to return to the extent they had to take the covers off the seats.
Still you keep telling yourself Ranjurs are deid over and over again.
You write to UEFA to say Ranjurs are deid - they tell you to fuck off.
Still you keep telling yourself Ranjurs are deid over and over again.
You write to the SFA to say Ranjurs are deid - they tell you to fuck off.
Still you keep telling yourself Ranjurs are deid over and over again.
You write to the Advertising Standards Agency to say Ranjurs are deid - they tell you to fuck off.
Still you keep telling yourself Ranjurs are deid over and over again.
You crowdfund a plan to to place an advertisement in a Swiss newspaper to say Ranjurs are deid. Despite it being a French language paper they took your cash, laughed like feck and printed it.
Still you keep telling yourself Ranjurs are deid over and over again.
You turn up at your clubs AGM every year with at least 2 questions about Ranjurs for your board.
Still you keep telling yourself Ranjurs are deid over and over again.
Now when the two clubs meet there is a queue the length of Janefield Street to snap up the £50 tickets.
Still you keep telling yourself Ranjurs are deid over and over again.
You beat this new team Sevco (deid Rangers) and your tying scarfs to goalposts as if you have conquered their territory.
What a party but still you keep telling yourself Ranjurs are deid over and over again.
The new 5 year old team come to visit and people spend days painting massive banners and blowing up dolls.
You win again, party like mad but still you keep telling yourself Ranjurs are deid over and over again.
You win again at Ibrox and the convicted racist striker is so delirious he standing on a barrier waving an Irish flag.
Still you keep telling yourself Ranjurs are deid over and over again but well done Lee - you are the one kind of racist our proudly anti racist club don't mind.;-)
Meanwhile over at Ibrox this new team Sevco (deid Rangers) still attract 50k every single week and sell out every away allocation.
If you can just try and separate yourself from your cry wank fantasy for one minute and look how fucking bonkers it all looks.
In the meantime you just keep telling yourself Ranjurs are deid over and over again.

I assume by the SPL you meant, Scottish Premiership, where 32 games in, we still have 4 clubs in a relegation battle and three clubs shooting it out for second place and European spots. All with plenty of homegrown, academy developed players and most clubs not carrying crippling debt and living off their means or relying on foreign ownership.
What about that is a joke, or are you and most other people who compare our game to the super rich leagues too lazy and brainwashed to actually think for themselves and see the good in the game at the moment.

It's not rocket science.
More fans = more money for the clubs.
More money for the clubs = more to spend on academies to produce better players.
Producing better players = better for the standard of the league as a whole.

Im not unhappy the way my team are going
The old firm has tried to get into the premiership for yrs
It will never happen
The old firm will always be the 2 bigger clubs I Scotland and no matter how many other fans from smaller clubs go pay their money the league won't change.
Any great talent born n bred from Scotland unless they are a die hard fan of their club will always move on down with or abroad it's a no brainer to move along their career.i really still don't get what supporters can do. |
