The human race lost one of its most beautiful minds today. RIP to a truly awe inspiring man.

It is a sad day indeed. The film The Theory of Everything shows his spirit for fun, sense of humour and his gradual physical deterioration. The support of his family and friends helped him through. It would have been easy for Cambridge University to dismiss him but instead they embraced and adapted and allowed his genius to blossom and collaborate with others. His theories are beyond my understanding but they will live forever.
RIP Stephen Hawking. |

"Has enough time passed to make jokes now without it being considered inappropriate? "
Of course it has.
I'll go first.
Stephen Hawking and Jim Bowen died today.
Jim always said it should be the non-dart player who goes first.

Watch some of his lectures....they baffle the hell out of me at times but my god, he never ever loses my interest. He made physics and cosmology seem almost easy to me and a great many others, although I confess to being one of the many who never managed to get to the end of his book.
His humour and compassion were endless, as was his desire that the human race take chances, evolve for the better and explore beyond our own planet.
If we can learn anything from Professor Hawking it should be that no matter how bad life seems or what shit it throws at us - smile and make the best of it because anyone can make a difference.
May he finally find all the answers to his infinite questions.
RIP |

There have only ever been a few scientists that keep me watching those sorts of programmes. Why? Well because they make it interesting and not toooo scientific. Hawking was one of these and his passion for his subject was really clear to see.
It has been said that because he had difficulty in communicating he could see the ideas in his head extremely clearly. When he did explain things on tv this clarity came across in the way he described everything to us. i remember watching some really old OU stuff years ago and good god that was so dry and boring
There are currently a few others who can do this, Brian Cox, Neil DeGrasse-Tyson and the other Scottish guy who’s name I can’t remember right now. We need more like Hawking but I don’t think there will be another one for one hell of a long time. |

Beautifully expressed Furry and Willnat, he had the gift of scientific genius and a rare understanding of the human condition. Rare to find both in one person |

Indeed we can only be inspired. We all have the spark it’s up to us to fan it into a flame
