It just means they have something better.
Supposed to meet them at the pub and they don't show - that's patched
text them a message, question, they read it but don't bother replying - that's patched
many situations but really they don't bother and decide to do something else like sit on the setae and drink than reply

Said teenager in household told me yesterday I am an embarrassment and that I need to learn how to use urban dictionary to learn how to speak and funnyly enough the conversation was about pulling and the birds and the bees ....I seemingly have no idea ....oh how I laugh |

Pretty much this. But also if you are meant to do something, but either don't or can't be bothered.
I need to go shopping but I'll just patch it, for example.
