... Who does what?
I ride bike a lot, so good fitness, but it's crap for losing any weight.
I'm now running again as it seems to get results in weight loss quickly.
I'm also wondering about Pilates/yoga, as my flexibility is crap now I'm past 40, and core strength needs boosting...
What do you do? |

I love running and you are right best way, at least for me, to keep the weight off and lose.
Back running after 6 weeks off
2 easy runs last week and looks like I am on target for my third 5k this week. So well pleased after being off the tarmac
Good luck OP |

Loved running but years have taken toll on knees. Find swimming and cycling boring so trying to do more walking. Problem us our weekend walks invariably finish in a pub. |

We have both just started on the virtual on line bike riding platform zwift. It’s very good. The cheapest trainer with power and slope is £190 and it costs £8.99 a month to be a member. We might have to get a second one so we can ride at the same time |

What trainer have you got? I’ve been using suffer fest on a normal turbo but I have a power meter on my bike. I like the look of the direct drive ones but can’t justify £1k on a train her. |

As a club rider I concur with you.
Miles and Watts out to calories in will certainly reduce weight. |

I think it all depends about what we are talking about when we use the terms 'reduce weight' 'riders/cyclists' 'serious' 'road/mountain' etc...
To lose the weight I want, fast and to burn the stored fat where I want to lose it and to make noticeable changes to 'my' body with 'my' metabolism, I would have to follow a Chris Hoy program! Never gonna happen!
My body responds better to running. Cycling doesn't do it for me.
The thing is to find the activity that works for you and that you enjoy |

Running and football. With football you can’t cancel your session because you can’t be bothered and it’s also like having a number of foul mouthed personal trainers motivating you |

Any tips for a shy tubby?
I have a cross trainer and weights, but I'm inherently lazy.
Definitely won't go running...
I guess I need a motivating factor? |

Home gym? Or buddy up with a good friend to motivate
Had a friend over recently, and she got me doing HIT workouts Although, it was after dinner and movie, probably not the best idea!
I go hillwalking in good weather, and looking to buy a bike for cycling . |

Like pilates when I make the effort to do it.
Used to love Body Pump at the gym. Go swimming with the kids....
But for the most part my exercise regime involves lifting my large collection of fitness dvds to polish. |

I have a few workmates who helped me by encouraging and advice, plus we often run at lunch although I don't run with them as I prefer my own pace and they're too fast...people are such a help, even if it's just setting a time to meet and get active.
I also downloaded the couch to 5k app. Having not run since school, I'm now routinely running 4-5k in 30 mins. Music on, app on, head for greenspace and just go. I've amazed myself with the fact I have kept at it.
I'm now keen for more horizontal jogging.

A fitbit type device? Get 10000 steps a day?
Jogscotland will have a group near you. They do walks, slow jogs as well as runs. |

Run run run... that’s my advice but add in hill sprints and interval running. My bet 10k time came while just doing 15 min interval running
Also you need to do some core work weights etc
And finally genetics ...As one poster said
Has anyone mentioned that sex is a great calorie burner ???? |

Drink beer n smoke tabs
Nah lol, though I reckon I'm probably a wee bit fitter than a kwickfit fitter!
Again...nah lol
A wee bit fitter than the average smoker of my age,but that's due to the work I do n cycling to n from the yard every day.
Did start going to the gym a while back when I split from my ex,but that was just to get out the house n stop moping about.
Lasted just over 3 months going 2-4 nights a week for up to an hour at the time.
Was eating like a horse n taking creatine n protein shakes n pre workout stuff.
Stopped short of taking any steroids though, fuck that for a game of soldiers!
A couple of my older pics are from then n you can see a difference...not much just a bit more defined....wasn't for me in the end though,my work is like going to the gym as it is so I just ended up feeling drained.
Take my hat off to those that stick at it though...takes dedication |

Morning all
We're past the honeymoon of new years resolutions - anyone else going still?
I'm running still, amazingly, and now doing 5k in 25 mins
I've even taken to Pilates once a week to get some flexibility back.
I don't have scales, but I can see the difference on me, and like it. |

I really need to get my act together. Used to go to the gym twice a week and played football at least three times. Was ever fit until I had two injuries back to back.
Had to give up football because of it and changed jobs so actually struggling to get back to the gym.
Just feel like a lazy git now.
How can one get out of the rut? |

I only run so the main reason I look the way I do at 47, excluding face ??
There are ways as you run to tighten your core and certain muscles that will make them and you work harder and lose weight.
I think Pilates/yoga will help your flexibility, I don't as I still play football and coach in the evenings so usually this schedular keeps me flexabile but your just gonna get injury n niggles a lot more easily now.
Whatever you do to keep fit n lose weight it's best to do something you enjoy |

Well I did enjoy going to the gym. I would do a 20 minute cycle followed by 20 min on the cross trainer then would hit the weight for an hour and finished it off with a 20 min run. Just struggling to find the motivation since become a digger driver. |

"Does motorcycling keep you fit? I kind of thought it was just sitting on the thing while it does the work?"
you ever seen a fat or out of shape motogp rider?
hard riding on a bike gives you muscles on your muscles |
