I know this has been done a few times, but I’m scrolling through Amazon Prime & Netflix tv & there’s been a few classics on there.
I’m transported back in time better than any Tardis.
The Singing Ringing Tree
Top Cat
Champion The Wonder Horse
Tom & Jerry
What shows have you watched that hold up over the years?

"Pokemon and yu-gi-oh for me.
I grew up with pokemon and now the kids watch it also, which is a good excuse for me to watch it. "
Crikey, I remember forking out a small fortune for the collectible Pokémon cards for my nephew. I suspect they’ll be worth as much as some Disney collectibles by now. Nostalgia sells. |

I guess Kojack, Z Cars,Sweeny And Minder above etc are technically adult programmes but loved them as a kid as well....

Now I’m sure I have some still in wrappers that I “put in a safe place” then forgot about so my nephew never actually got them. I must look them out. It might be my retirement plan. Better return than some ISA’s |

How could I have omitted Gerry & Sylvia Anderson’s Thunderbirds? With the husky voiced Lady Penelope, all 5 Thunderbirds vehicles & the villain The Hood? Some of the special effects were amazing & the model work worthy of some feature films? All before CGI effects. |

Yea. Very true. Thunderbird made a re-appearance in the 90’s.
Don’t forget - captain scarlet.
Great work by Gerry Anderson |

Yea, seen the re-runs through the years.

"It's difficult remembering any that haven't yet been mentioned!
Dangermouse
Why Don't You

There you go... others have noted shows (though personally I wouldn’t know some as I’d be of shagging age when they were on tv).
That said, I did enjoy Chorlton & The Wheelies & I was shagging age then too! |

Most of the ones I mind have been mentioned, the one thing I will say is the 80's and 90's cartoons had some proper intro music to them.
Where the truth lies form the legend of prince valiant s_ands out, heck it had a 3 minuet run time and could have been a single |

That show you mentioned mafc, “From Andy Pandy to Zebedee” threw up some classics & reminded me of others.
Blue Peter (my hero was John Noakes)
Animal Magic (the theme tune “Las Vegas” now being used for W1A & by Chris Evans on Radio 2)
Rhubarb & Custard (another memorable theme tune)
Magic Roundabout (where Eric Thompson’s stories bore no relevance to the French original)
The Wombles (Mike Batt’s theme song giving him another hit after “Summertime City” from Seaside Special)
Paddington Bear (Michael Bond’s very own Pooh)
Vision On (Tony Hart & a pre Dr Who Sylvester McCoy)
and of course Doctor Who (initially aimed at kids & today a family favourite & the oldest running tv SciFi show)
Great shout mafc. |

Can anyone remember the name of a weird cartoon that I think featured a musical box of some sort & had a connection to a Classical Composer? I can’t rememver too much other than it was like an operatic acid trip. |

Nope not that one. I think it had something to do with Mozart or another famous Classical Composer. It’s one of those insignificant things that’s gonna bug me till I get the answer. |

Today’s kids, according to the show, are living in the Digital Age where programming (& they mean this in more than one definition) is structured in order to “sell” kids stuff. Toys, sweets, & other merchandise associated directly or indirectly with the show. It’s formulated to encourage them to be consumers. No wonder I look at some parents & listen to their kids beseech them for this or that, & see the adults buckle under the pressure. Even grandparents seemingly want to “spoil” their little darlings with all the stuff we didn’t get.
Our generation however grew up in the “Golden Age” of kids tv where there was no monetary concept. Blue Peter asked for recycled stamps, milk bottle tops etc in their appeals. No premium rate call to donate £5, £10 or £20 (remembering to ask the bill payers permission). They explained how to make your own Tracey Island or (flammable) Christmas decorations from coat hangers & tinsel. Not something out of Toys R Us at £70! Our programmes primarily entertained, educated or were innovative.
Tbh I hadn’t thought quite as deeply as that but there is a marked difference & even the rebooted shows are designed to appeal to our sense of nostalgia, whilst updated for today’s consumer kiddies.
The kids even have their own channels running 24/7 that the kids can access, mostly unsupervised, whereas we had a couple of hours & Saturday mornings. The rest of the time we were using our imaginations or outside playing - not glued to mobiles, tablets, & laptops.
I wonder if we will see a return to “inclusive” viewing or if that age has now passed? |

Well Said.
It's such as shame how it's been only looked at commercially now when I feel it was more just for our entertainment and learnings. |
