Brufen/ibuprofen, same thing. What works for one person doesn't always work for another.

This. If you're really blocked, inhale steam. Hot water in a bowl, towel over your head. No need for vick or menthol. They're a cosmetic addition.
I'll allow you paracetamol if you're feverish.
Annoys me that chemist shops just hand out the meds rather than give out advice.
