sorry im a bit of a lost soul. I sold my betting forum and now im lost for a plae to go. I like the lifestyle choices of folks here so im gonna hang about. I don't do chatrooms im afraid. I hope you dont mind me hanging about here.
Last night i found this albert camus quote-
"In order to understand the world, one has to turn away from it on occasion"
It's simple enough. It applies to me as im a bit of a recluse due to the dope and the hobbies (poker, website making, piano etc) It lead me to read more of his quotes here-
http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/a/albert_camus.html
He's so spot on on so many things to me. I have been trying to understand nihilism as i think im a nihilist from what i can gather. I can't grasp Absurdism though. Can anyone exlain it to me in slightly more lawman terms?
thanks.
ps Who wants a shag? (joke)
pps if you have any quotes that you woukld like to share yourself then feel free to mention them here. |

The mark of your ignorance is the depth of your belief in injustice and tragedy. What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls the butterfly.
nice...where did that funny cigarette come from? |

I think i need to roll 2 or 3 neil to try to understand all this. I understand the butterly bit but not the ignorance bit. Is it something similar to a dog saying 'how big is man?'
QI is prob a fav with most and certainly with me. the told me once that a butterfly is just a bunch of splinter group moths who got bored with only going out at night and decided to go out in the day. eventually they got coloured and became what we know as being the butterly. Little wonder all these moths go to the light. I suppose moth religion must be interesting |

im sure you'll deal with it stunna or laugh about it later. If you dont mind Stunna im in need of salvation so ..errr if you dont mind i'll go look through them other Camus quotes and post my favs. Lets see what we have.....
"Man is the only creature that refuses to be what he is. "
lovely. so true. what is he though? He is only what he is. society makes the man i think. sadly.
"The need to be right is the sign of a vulgar mind"
maybe he's being a bit harsh on people with compulsive disorders and autism
"How hard, how bitter it is to become a man!"
Aye a man that doesnt perv nor batter. Prob with that line is that wife beaters will take it as some kind of forgiveness
and finally a phrase that is ripping through me at the mo. im a loner who has thought long and hard about denying the existance of god in his life only to be left a little on his own with the denial of god, and is finacially secure to never work another day in his life. all 3 = shite life for me
""Ah, mon cher, for anyone who is alone, without God and without a master, the weight of days is dreadful" "
yes im a melancholoy type of person

Not really a quote but a phrase I saw in a newspapar, " a very down to earth spaceman". It was said of Buzz Aldrin.
As for nihilism, I went through a rather dark time and that appealed to me then.
I think to steal a rather cheesy line from a film, that you just have to believe in one thing and hold that in your mind. It will be a different thing for everyone but once you know what it is.
As you were saying about not needing money and never having to work again, I would put forward a suggestion. Have you considered voluntary work? I spent some time abroad working with lepers, HIV victims, children and in slum redevelopment programs, and it was immensely rewarding. It's certainly a different kind of payment and I would never suggest that it is for everyone, but it might give you another reason to get up in the morning?

I was thinking of going away to do some charity work squidgy but i don't know if my heart would be in it. Im quite selfish with my time and i am addicted to the internet. I would hate to be offline. Ive got loads of hobbies to keep me busy etc but im starting to wonder if im just passing my time away. I suppose i'll think of something. my time before was spent making websites and i got into it quite passionatly. maybe i'll try and write a book or something. Maybe the arts is the way out. again though it could all be delusion. i dunno...
sorry janda i thought you was stunna there. Im glad i dont have a tv nor keep up with celebs etc angus. It sounds awfull having to read and listen to these types of people. |

Absurdism is where you think an explanation from a policeman a solicitor or any other lawman will make matters clearer. |
