"Going to go for a nosey as I loooved the first one but am not excited about it!
I am really not a fan of that Ryan Gosling! "
Neither am I, but I think his "stillness" as an actor may be right for this film. (I was never a fan of Harrison Ford before the original...) |

"Looking forward to it although bit worried as one review I saw said the story was a bit weak."
One review out of how many, though? You'll always find someone to be out of step. It probably makes the reviewer think they're cool. |

"Mixed feelings, can’t be as good as the original so it’s just a case of how far short it falls
John
The reviews are overwhelmingly positive."
I dont put much faith in most reviews/articles these days due to the vast amount of paid promotion. |

I didn't really enjoy the first one, I thought it was incredibly over hyped. Definitely not going to pay to see it in the cinema, but might watch on nexflix/Amazon when it comes out. |

Stunning movie, but a bit too long, there were loads of sequences(mostly of Ryan Gosling walking somewhere) which could have had a minute or two shaved off.
I expect loads of nominations in awards season, at least in the thechnical categories. |

We are going in a few hours. I've seen the first one but can't remember the story so I'm hoping that doesn't matter ! A bit worried about the length of the film though, i hadn't realised it was a long film til i read this thread ... so I'll probably go sleep !! |

watched it a few days ago, I wasnt that impressed..the story was slow, sometimes confusing..or it just wasnt that interesting to keep me glued. In a lot of ways I felt the art direction tried too hard to be like the original and it ended up being more arthousey than science fiction. |

I wasn't impressed either. The film was far to long with many pointless scenes. It could have been shorter and snappier and then it might have held my interest longer. I didn't fully understand the story line either until g explained it to me as we drove home.
To make matters worse we had a code to get cheaper tickets but g forgot to use the code when booking the tickets |

"We loved it. Atmospheric, superb acting by Ryan Gosling, and very thought provoking.
Thought provoking in what way ?"
The whole premise of Blade Runner is about what makes us human. If that doesn't provoke thought, then what does it do?
If we give a creation memories, empathy, a soul, if you like, where does replicant become human?
Don't forget that we live on the verge of genuine AI, and everything, good or bad, that it might bring. |

very true,
but in reflection on the thought provoking aspects, the original was much deeper than the sequel |

I don't see it like that at all. It's just a science fiction film. It didn't make me think about what makes us human. You are either human or not. All i could think about after the first 40 mins is ... how much longer is this boring, long winded, drawn out film going to go on for ... ! It's one of the few films i didn't enjoy at the cinema (i go to the cinema a lot) and longed for the end. |

Read up on Philip K Dick. The theme of what it is to be human runs through most of his work. That is what elevates the original film, and the sequel, above mere sci-fi like Star Wars. |

I know what it is to be human though.
I enjoy sci fi usually although i can't stand star wars. |

YOU know what it is to be human, but the films pose the question "At what point does an artificial life form become sentient?"
This is something that we will face in the near future. |

Obviously the film was way to deep for me cus i never once thought the film posed that question. I was just bored by it. |

Went to see it the other day and really enjoyed it - I liked the slow pace and fact it wasn't super frenetic like a lot of recent films. Its always going tobe hard living up to the original though. |

This is the problem these days. If it isn't "fast & furious", the average cinema goer hasn't the attention span to focus between car chases and shoot outs. |

I saw it on Saturday and at 2.5 hours I found it too long. Too many flight scenes and fights to try and pad out the time.
I also found it disjointed as if the guy that does the continuity had a day off. |

How rude !!!
Thankfully I'm not an average cinema goer so you weren't being rude about me, not that it would bother me
I won't say what I think about forum users who are rude about others who have a different view to them personally i think it's interesting that we all have different views about the same film. |

So true ..and ive never went to cinema to watch fast and furious either lol
A film has to grasp my interest and this film sadly didnt.
World would be a dull place if we all liked the same things.

Unfortunately, popularity determines what gets made often and what doesn't. Watch 'idiocracy' if you want to see where that ends up. I wish films like this were made more often. |

"A bit overrated to be honest.
Again a remake. That's all that seems to be coming out of Hollywood at the moment.
"
Whilst you are correct to say that the proportion of films coming out of hollywood that are sequels, prequels and remakes has increased in the last decade or so, this was a sequel rather than a remake. |

"Well whatever it was I didn't find it as engaging as the original.
"
It wasn't an especially original storyline, basically the exact same plot as blade trinity and underworld 3, but well executed if you don't mind the length. |

I will watch it again when I see a better copy..but as it stands, I found the story paling in comparison...too disjointed..and lacking any real punch.
and the fact theres been better AI based films since bladrunner, namely ex-machina |

Not expecting much...I'm just going for "The Gosling", family size bag of Minstrels and a possible fumble in the back row.
Lol just had flashbacks lol.

I make my own mind up.
You disgree with the entire premise of the film. It's no wonder you didn't enjoy it. "
So because someone doesn't like it they must be wrong?

I didn't like sweeney todd, because i hate musicals and didn't realise it was one until they wouldn't shut the fuck up singing. I don't think it's objective to say sweeney todd is boring. I should have researched it a bit before going. |

I'm highlighting the difference between liking and not liking a film vrs an objectively good or bad film. The main objective criticism of blade runner 2049 is it's length. Otherwise it's objectively a well made film that some people will enjoy and others won't. |

For anyone who enjoyed the themes explored in Blade Runner you should check out the Episode 5 of Electric Dreams. It's the best in the series so far imo.
Anyone's who's interested is probably already aware, but Blade Runner was based on a book by Philip K Dick and each episode of Electric Dreams is based on one of his short stories.

Auch as a stand alone movie it was ok but a sequel that is the sequel to one of the best sci-fi movies ever, it would have to be special n outstanding to even come close to the original, which obviously it wasn't. |
