Ive toured right round Scotland and been in most remote nooks and crannies around the coast but the one place that gave me that remote "im all alone in this world" feeling was down Glen Affric one christmas day about 15 years ago. There was a good 6/8" of snow overnight and we were the only car to venture out down Glen Affric to the end of the road. I then walked back a few miles on my own with the dog. There was not a sound to be heard.... not even a bird.... just total silence. The sun was out and the snow kept falling..... was one of the most magical feelings i will always remember. |

"Durness - my inlaws lived there
Smoo cave is well worth a visit, as is balnakiel beach and craft village"
Cocoa Mountain is opening a shop in Dornoch so you don't have to drive all the way to Durness! |

"Anyone had any fun in a remote place?
I did it outside Mallaig on a remote beach, Glen Nevis"
Outdoors in Cumbernauld. It doesn't get any more desolate than that. |

Has to be Sandwood Bay 5 miles south of Cape Wrath coral pink sands rolling surf. Well worth the hike to get to it. Last time I was there took a btl of malt and a few beers and camped right on the beach and had myself a wee party |
