What's everyone's worst job you've had ?
Mine was about 15 years ago when I worked for a contractor for the council collecting rent and other debts.
Thing I hated most was the attitude to these families was that they didn't pay because they didn't want to not the fact they couldn't .
Remember seeing lots of cases where their choice was pay the council to get them off their backs or feed and clothe their kids ,was a woman who worked at a shop while her kids were in nursery and school and had saved for three months to pay her debt of £40,when she answered the door her daughter was complaining her feet were sore because her shoes were too small and they were all eating toast for their tea.
I payed the debt for her and told her to use the money to go shopping and buy shoes ,went back to the office and told the managers that these families need help,not chased for money every week.
What's everyone else's experiences ? |

Mine was a Data Entry job for 3 weeks. It was rubbish money and so mind-numbing. The other people I was working with were a little "cooky" and the girl that started at the same time as me quit after 3 days.
Luckily my job was as part of a Council Training program, so I knew I had another job after it, but for the Council it was cheap labour.
When I say is was rubbish money/cheap labour it was 1997 and I was getting £150 a week for a 32.5 hour week, but it was a first job, and it opened the doors to my chosen career.

Worked in a fish factory, cutting and processing fresh fish. It was cold wet and smelly work. I made it worse on myself though, we were paid on a Thursday night and I always went out. Would go in every Friday with a crazy hangover and my boss would punish me by giving me the worst jobs. Think poking eyes or pulling guts out of fish... urghhh! |

Nah white wellies were only for the managers. Us skivvys had yellow or blue! Was a good laugh at times though. I went into office work next and there was way more bitching and cattyness there than in the factories, which surprised me |

Community care can imagine is tough,my sister did community nursing and like you loved the patients but was frustrated with the lack of time she had with them.

That is so true....wee shame.
Sky: there is a hidden clique mentality, if you are not in...your out. (But everyone smilies so they fit in. )
Fair....it could have been just the area Lee was at, but the same situation happened to others.
Oh well, karma gets even sharks in a shark pool.
Lee is happy back in nursing.

Worst job was working in a coffee shop part time when I was at uni. Unhygienic, long hours, equipment was never cleaned and my feet were killing me every day. |

I was a trolly dolly for scotrail. I lasted a week. Being on the train dealing with customers was fine but the way staff were treated behind scenes was terrible.
The day I left the manager was busy reducing some other girl to tears. I walked straight out. |

After graduating I got a job collating the mental health statistics for Scotland. I quit after three days when I realised my actual job was adding and subtracting ones and twos for eight hours a day. Honestly , a five year old could have done it . This was 1990 and my salary was 12 grand a year! |

In situations like this it's the perfect morale opportunity to live the dream and punch your boss. Potentially even wangle it as self defence if you could prove "you were in fear of your own safety"
