Glasgow

So Who do we think is telling the trust Nicola Sturgeon or Keiza Dugdale ???

I find it pretty depressing to think that one of our political leaders is definitely lying.

I do know that there is a politics forum, but this is a particularly Scottish Question.........So what do you think ??

Why dont we have a referendum every second Saturday of the month just to keep the thing going for another 300 yrs . Ohhh so bored hearing it . It's tragic that politicians seem to put most of their time and energy into petty games of oneupmanship and the not so petty games of power when what they should be doing is working together to solve the many crises our world faces.

The vote today is for whom governs the U.K. Yet even in tiny Scotland the parties squabble over who is in charge of Scotland. In all honesty there are times I think Mother Nature should scrub the slate clean and start again.

Maybe give the insects a shot

The union is a contract which Westminster has repeatedly broken so time for a divorce. We should declare a UDI, which would be upheld by the world community, then have our own Scottish general election. The politicians will always be shady liars but at least they'll be our own, and it's up to us to hold them to account and at least we cant blame anyone else any more.

I too would love independence so we agree on this point . But it would take in my opinion 5 to 10 yrs to plan and make sure its viable. With all the devolved powers the snp have why havnt they said to Westminster cut the money you send us in half and we will half the money we send you so we can see if the budgets are workable for independence. Use the powers they have just now to prove independence is viable.

Scotland has never had a free vote on independence. The original union was a hostile takeover fuelled by bribery and the threat of invasion. Scots were opposed, but the ruling class voted for self-interest, against their own country. Unfortunately, the spirit of those quislings is still alive today.

Then, in the ONLY time in over 300 years when the Scots were allowed to vote on their own future, and when the polling suggested a victory for YES, the unionists broke all the rules and wheeled out Gordon Brown to deliver his infamous meaningless vow through the daily record and the bbc.

So devo-max, never an option, suddenly became one at the eleventh hour - enough to sway the result for the union.

Fortunately, labour paid a heavy price for their treachery. But their tory masters are still fighting as dirty as ever.

Independence is NOT a party political issue, but it suits the establishment to fight the battle along those lines, so they can recruit the ranks of the useful idiots to buttress support for the status quo.

When we transition from childhood to adulthood, we become autonomous, legally responsible and independent. Independence is a natural and desirable state of being, not only for individuals but for nations also.

The desire for independence is nothing more complicated than the desire for autonomy and the requirement for a democracy where our aspirations do not need to be filtered through the sieve of the best interests of the London establishment.

Of course, it's the Unionist parties who keep on and on about it. Look at the election flyers, every time they speak in public and all they can write in their columns. The tactic is to give the impression that the independence campaign is A} Purely about the SNP B} The only thing the SNP talk about or do. This is to make the undecided and those who only get their information from the mainstream media propaganda think that the only reason they hear about independence is because of the evil Nats.

The blatant lies told to the Scottish voters during the last indyref have been clearly highlighted, especially the one that has lead to the mandate for this referendum; membership of Europe. Somehow or other standing on a manifesto which included a second referendum if there was a material change of circumstances, being voted into power on the basis of that manifesto and then following that manifesto is somehow anti-democratic if you're a unionist.

No, the UK 'stuff' doesn't belong to Westminster. It belongs to the UK. Leaving the Union means we are entitled to our share of all UK assets. You know, like we've been paying for for over 300 years.

The devolved powers give us no control over macro-economic levers. We are therefore unable to control our own economy so your idea wouldn't work. However, just for the sake of argument, let's say WM did decide to let us have full control over our economy (you know, like we were promised in the Vow)and this came about. Scotland would very quickly see how it has been ripped off for 300+ years and leave the UK permanently. This is why WM will never allow a more federalised UK as it would highlight just how badly skewed towards London the present setup is.

You know I really don't get that folk think we have on vote on independence and that's IT.

I know this is simplistic and someone will no doubt tell me why but we vote for a new parliament every five years... there isn't that much difference surely. However in saying that many think that's the trouble that we move from one parties policies to another all the time... there is no easy answer to any of this in truth but as I said before the one thing THEY ALL HAVE IN COMMON IS LIES, A LOVE OF LISTENING TO THEIR OWN HUBRISTIC VOICES AND POWER.

Sadly they thing they all have in common is distinct lack of humanity, of being able to work together to solve a problem - it's all about HOW (i.e. each one wants it their way) not that the problem actually gets tackled.

Nae bother. I'm not here to argue. Both sides tell lies, but if we're the subsidy junkies draining them like they say, why they so desperate to keep us? The old bulldogs dying but it'll hang on till it does, using it's ancient &'well learned tactics of receipt and intimidation. I see through it is all I'm saying

" the oil industry is dieing "

Aye, right.

"From the Telegraph in June 2008 we find a credible source that says: ‘North Sea oil will last for 100 years‘. Dr Richard Pike, a former oil industry consultant and now the chief executive of the Royal Society of Chemistry, said:

“Rather than only getting 20 to 30 billion barrels [from the North Sea] we are probably looking at more than twice that amount. The North Sea will continue to provide oil for another 100 years, twice as long as previous estimates, according to industry analysts”.

100 years is on the upside but what does the official industry body say? At a recent debate on the future of the North Sea a director of London based industry body, Oil & Gas UK, told me that there is at least 40 years of oil left at reasonably high production rates and that various sources agree that the oil left in the sea is worth about £1.5 trillion in terms of resources remaining to be extracted."

Even if you take the lower estimate of 40 years its certainly enough to build a good nest egg like the Norwegians have managed. Or would you prefer to piss the rest of it away as Westminster has done to date?

The £1.5 trillion quoted, is that based on $100 per barrel or the $30-40 that it's worth now? SNP said it would rework their calculations on the economy without the revenue from oil but I've yet to see their figures.

I still don't see how we can afford to fund a welfare state on the budget we have.

It's strange any other election and a party winning 34 out of 59 seats would be considered very much the victors.

An interesting result especially when you consider that the SNP were as successful in the recent council elections.

Still leaves them 3rd biggest party at Westminster.

Pressing the button does not stop you getting frazzled pressing the button gets you frazzled especially if you do as you say you will and press it first (Theresa May)
