"Hey guys and dolls .. nerves starting to kick in .. I'm emigrating has anyone ever made a big move "
Where you emigrating to?
Biggest move I did was when I went down to London. Was very nervous and excited. |

"I'm moving to Portugal .. I'm nervous but iv only got 20 days left in Scotland .. so going to make the most of it "
It can be scary and exciting!
But you'll get whatever you put into it. Good luck!
Going for work or just a change? |

Im American, I move to Germany from 1992-2006.
Then moved to Tenerife, Spain 2006 -2011.
Then 2011 moved to Fife.
Big tips.... learn the language and alway try to follow the local customs. Politeness and manners go a long way.
The locals will observe you and judge you.... give them a good first impression. Local friendships are key to survival...both with information and help with problems.
Try not to attach to much with other local uk patriots.
Don't underestimate culture shock... identify it in your self and try and be positive.

Moved from France to Scotland.
It was supposed to be one year and I've been here over 20
Enjoy, make the most of it. Get away from other Brits and mix in with the locals. When in Rome do like the Romans.
Get yourself a phrasebook and teach yourself the basics.
You can also join a gym if you like to keep fit or a class of one of your hobbies.
Listen to the local radio/tv as much as you can.
Never been to Portugal but going there in the Summer. It looks like a beautiful country to explore.
Have fun OP |
