I know govanhill very well used to drink there years ago.....these days wouldn't go near without full body armour on an in a tank lol.....friend of mine lived there for years (single f) an eventually had to sell up as was in genuine fear for her safety ......damn shame it was a lovely place years ago ? |

I used to use the swimming baths when I was a bairn, shame they've closed it, there's not much for folk to do in that area now except pubs, greggs and bookies fs. |

You would think the msp and mp for the area would be up in arms about the state of the area but not a cheep !!!
The previous Labour council started making in roads to take on the slum landlords.
with the new Glasgow council dynamic they will be ordered to through money at the area. |

I worked in govanhill for 2 months alone and I was followed a good few times. They would follow me to my car and stare in my car at me and i would shout at them lol it was always a woman and a man never a group of men luckily! I had to carry a r@pe alarm!
I can't really go into the nature of the job but let me say I seen things that would horrif people and this is happening in our country such a disgrace! I feel sorry for the people who have lived there all of there lives. |

Funnily enough i visit Govanhill library, the garage opposite it did a really good repair on my car. Being six foot tall blues eye fair hair, i tend not to attract any of the above posted observations. The area has a lot of work being done to it. Like anywhere though it has a bad rep that may not be 100% the case.

I'm not sure what people expect a politician to do about Govanhill. Use parliamentary muscle and start forced repatriation? Tackling the slum landlords and investing in the infrastructure are two pretty major political undertakings from the FM but I can hardly see how one person can be held responsible for all social ills. It's more a statement from people who a) know nothing about the area and b) have an agenda but no actual facts.
Govanhill baths are indeed open and have been for a while.
