I had an operation last summer which involved cutting from the top of my ear down to the bottom then up behind ear and down my neck. I had myself in all sorts of scenarios because I couldn't leave Google alone

I am very inquisitive so I would like to know how and what any procedure involved.

Like reviews, when you research operations online all you ever seem to find are the negatives comments.

I had an operation 12 years ago and leading up to it I read up on things, and I'm not kidding when one of the side-effects listed was "death".

In the end it was nothing to worry about, and the worst that happened was a stitch that dissolved and popped about 4 days before it should have.

I've no long since had my elbow gouged out and the nerve transposed. Must've googled 100 different sites and watched 20 YouTube videos because I was convinced they all lied!!! They didn't and the worst thing about it was that the swollen tissue looked like a badly packed kebab.

You will be fine OP. Deep breath and talk pish to the nurses. Just blame the drugs

I prefer to know the ins and outs of an op even if it is for a person I am close to.

I like to be prepared in my head and able to ask questions regarding recovery etc...

Focus on the positive OP and I hope the op goes smoothly. Speedy recovery

Don't worry. It'll all be fine. My wee 90 year old mum broke her hip last week and got new hippy bits with a spinal block. She's now doing the Lambada. Luckily she can't Google....

Good luck!!!

Haha nothing kinky, just my operation haha

Tbh the post is more tongue in cheek, I'm not overly bothered but it is unsettling when you google these things before they are done

My post too

I'm sure you will be ok. Just do what they tell you to do afterwards. Rest. Recuperate and I'm sure you'll be fine.

I've done that too... I have skin cancer and had MOHs surgery on my face. Really shouldn't have looked that up on You Tube... 10p size hole cut in my face, just below my eye. You'd not know it though... sometimes it's not as bad as you expect. Even when you're awake during it.

I ask my GP or consultant about procedures that way I get an honest answer.

Asking Dr Google or his mate Nurse Wikipedia is like asking a butcher to remove teeth........oh wait is that not what happened

at school dentist during the 70's

My advice - get proper sport phisio after. Nhs are crap. I did my program myself after knee surgery and in 2 months was great. You need to start asap after surgery.

I have a metal rod from the top of my leg to my knee with god know how many pins in it. To be far this was from a motor bike accedent. Did not have a cast on it and was not able to walk for like 3-4months without assistance and was out of hospital after a week. Yes I left to early and was glad I had a female friend to help me out as I was bed bound. But we still made it work wink wink. As the good time

Google is a wonderful tool, however too much info can be bad as well as good.

3 years ago next month I had necrotising fasciitis and wasn't until I came out of intensive care that I realised how horrific it was with a more than 70% mortality rate.

Good luck with yer operation
