"Must admit I'd really love to go on holiday to Norway and see them up there when it's freezing cold and really bright "
Yep that would be perfect but heading north soon and wondered if anyone living there had any tips or had noticed good places etc |

I'm from North Ayrshire and have seen it a few times.
I've found the best place to watch it is a car park just outside Ardrossan on the largs road and look out over to where Kintyre is.
Of course it needs to be a clear night which is rare.
I've never actually saw it on purpose. |

Wow lucky you, it's an elusive sight but the last year has been a peak one for solar wind so hopefully there might be a good chance of seeing it. Hoping for clear nights and I think the wee hours are best too. |

Might be worth checking an aurora forecast before uncurling from in front of the fire and heading out into the cold.
These guys in Finland seem to have collected some useful satellite data together for that purpose:

You can see them in the central belt regularly if it's clear and the solar wind is strong enough.
There are loads of aurora watch services out there which will let you know how far south you are likely to see it. |

Aviemore and regularly visit Glasgow |
See them fairly regularly up here in the highlands. The further north you go the better, but all depends on luck really. They can appear and disappear again at any time of the night. Keep an eye on the aurora watch website and find somewhere well away from light pollution.
