I'm not sure you want female input but I'll give it anyway 
I think it all depends on your perspective re age. A Milf or a Cougar could be quite young if you are a 25 year old male. In my opinion a Milf should be a mother but then some Mums are VERY young. A cougar in my opinion would be 40 upwards but everyone will have their own definition.

Well not quite simply! I don't think a woman just becomes desirable to a guy just because she has a child, if you had 25 year old identical twins, but one has a baby, her body will change, her boobs might get bigger, her ass rounder and her whole attitude to life will change due to having something precious, some guys will find they are drawn to her and not her twin, because she's a milf  |

I see what you mean here, though I've found Milf or Gilf is usually used in good banter. Cougar I dislike due to the predatory thing. As often said here, it's the spark that counts not age etc. |

I'd say a MILF was a woman of a certain age who's attractive. Not necessarily someone who's available or looking to find a partner.
A COUGAR is a woman who's actively out to get herself a younger man.
Not phrases that I'd use myself.
Although I was chatting up a woman once when her daughter came over to me and asked what my intentions were towards her MILF. Did make me laugh. |
