Do you or would you complain if you receive bad service at a restaurant or wherever ?

I never used to until I worked as a waitress years ago.

Yes. I have and do. Regularly.

Having an ex who is a chef taught me that there is no excuse for bad food or bad service. And if you say nothing, it won't change.

Didn't used to but do now, used to leave a tip automatically as well, now if it's not that bad to make me complain verbally, I'll show it by not leaving a tip, flip side, if I get great service, they get a great tip

I do complain if I receive bad service in restaurants and elsewhere.

But... I also say when the service received was outstanding to that person's manager.

I think it's only fair

I've done that too. Good service should always be rewarded.

And if a restaurant automatically adds a service charge to my bill I will ALWAYS deduct it. IF inget good service then any tip goes straight to the person who served me - NOT the restaurant

I'm a chef and I'd encourage any customer who is not happy with the service to complain ,it's better to receive a customers comments be it bad or good and learn from it as a chef I want people to be happy with the food I serve and the way it's served its all about good communication between all parts of the business to , these customers are what make a business work bad word of mouth and with things like trip adviser it's the last thing a restaurant needs is bad reviews Xxx

Hi, I'm constantly complaining as I order food without any kind of garnish but it seems chefs can't put a plate out without it Jim

I've gave the benefit of the doubt to a restaurant 3 times, each time somethings not been right, each time I complained, def won't be back

I do when I feel it's warranted. I've complained about bad food and things like that. I work in customer service so I try to give staff a bit of leeway as they may be having a bad day and I can sympathise. However if it's blatant rudeness/uselessness then I would complain.

Complain if it's warranted.

Worked in catering for nearly 30 years in most departments but mainly front of house.

Problem seems to be the genuine complainers don't like to complain because you don't want to make a scene or get people into trouble. Then you get the people who complain because they're basically looking for a freebie, big chains can take these losses but when your a small family owned restaurant it possibly means someone is going home without a wage if you're giving everything away for free.

Totally agree with complaining if it's genuine n as others said letting people know when the service/food has been good

Something silly like chocolates or a box of doughnuts to say thankyou can make all the difference sometimes.

Praise no matter where will always improve morale

Our customers give us loads of biscuits and chocolates in the run up to Xmas. Sometimes we give it away as there's so much of it, we'd end up the size of a house!

I work in the service industry and listen to complaints everyday. Seems people find it easier to complain over the phone than face to face.

If the service is slow or food is cold I will politely point it out. Most times the staff have been really accommodating and do what they can go sort.

I've had free first class rail tickets from Virgin when I complained to them.

Free dessert when it took so long to come and it had been sitting just waiting to be taken to the table.

I have complimented and tipped good service too.

I always complain about bad service, if it's bad enough. Always beware though with food placed. I've heard some really nasty rumours about what they do with your food if you piss them off.

Complain after you've been served. lol

As a former restaurant owner I used to encourage the staff to get chatty with the customers put them at ease ask if all was ok or if there was an issue to just say and we would sort it there and then, I even took a customer through to the kitchen to watch there food being prepared as they doubted the fresh homemade description on the menu, in there mind it was all frozen bought in stuff

If I'm out and find I need to complain then yes I will but also praise the staff in front of the management when it's appropriate
