Its also old firm day saturday ... Given the ahem shall we say 'concentration' of rangers fans in the glasgow green area but the close proximity to celtic park i think people coming out for a nice day at the proms may witness more 'culture' than they bargained for  |

What a stupid, uneducated and potentially bigoted statement to make.
The ratio of crowd on Saturday will be nearly 8:1 Celtic to Rangers.
If a proms concert, with a finale of pomp and circumstance being played, then there is one set of fans who would job in and respect and a group of others who would do their best to disrupt a Britishness style concert.

i think you misunderstood me ... I wasn't suggesting either side would be more at fault than the other ... just that around this area it is highly likely there will be a bit of trouble on saturday
I am also not bigoted in any way ... I actually support neither team and have nothing to do with football in general because growing up the bigoted people around me took the enjoyment out of it for me actually
just think it was probably bad planning for the council to allow 2 events to happen around the same area on the same day ... |

The council don't have any say on the date of the last night of the proms funnily enough. It's a ticket event so Glasgow green will be cordoned off for the concert.
I'm sure there are some football fans who enjoy some culture too.

i am pretty sure they do have a say in what events are held in their own parks though ... and i think they also get consulted for big match fixture dates too but I might be wrong ... I think its something to do with being aware of added pressure on local transport / police etc
anyway i appear to have inadvertently pissed people off by making what I thought was a pretty common observation in glasgow so ill just fuck off now and leave you to it ... enjoy your concert  |

You haven't  you clearly seemed to rile one person who has a bee in his bonnet and doesn't seem to know anything about the statistics of trouble that generally happens after old firm games in close proximity to the stadiums...
He has some sort of impression that if there was a fight, all the ranger fans would stomp the moment Elgar started playing and get into the spirit of things, not unlike the ceasefire to play a game of football during the first Christmas of world war 1.
I personally don't think there will be any trouble but only because the police do a not too bad job of dealing with these things and making sure everyone gets out of the area quickly - not because I think the fans will be behaved.
And, as girlinlingerie pointed out - she wasn't having a go at any particular side.

Go and enjoy. Was there last year with friends. Couple of picnic baskets some fizz and warm clothes. Had a fantastic night. Hopefully going to London next year with a friend who has been going for last 10 years |

Let's just take a wee second here. Well played man. I'm on forums all the time and nobody EVER retracts statements they made and sometimes they turn into slanging matches. The cyber world would be a better place if everyone was like this...

I watched it on the telly it was great the music they played to celebrate the life of that scottish composer it was played in memory of the islands up north it was magic you could just imagine being on the islands And the ET one did any one notice who was there the moon in the sky u just expected ET to go flying by in the bycicle basket |

It is a great piece of music. You should go next year. Remember your folding chair and a picnic when you go. Take extra layers as it gets colder later on.
